how to get the rad fan to start on it's own?

I have a mk2 VTR, which I 16v'd 7 month's ago..

I fitted a 3 plug loom, but a single plug fan..

To my knowledge the 3 plug fan kick's in when the ecu tell's it.. and the single plug is on a temp sensor?

Either way I couldn't connect the fan to my loom, so had to wire in a manual switch inside so I could switch it on..

Worried that when it goes for it's MOT, they might be funny about it. Or they might leave it running for ages for the emissions and it overheats.

So how do I get it to come on, on it's own?

Easier to connect it upto a temp sensor or however the single plug is set up? - as i have a single plug fan,

Or get a 3 plug fan and connect it to the loom?

just tell them about the fan? you could probably rig up a power feed using the sensor in the radiator if it has one but you can get thermostatic switch kits from ebay or whatever and most will allow custom temperature control for fan cut in

I will tell them about it, I just thought they might of been funny with it.

I'm still using the 3 plug vtr rad, so it doesn't come with a sensor..

Usually its a thermistor that slips inside a coolant hose and adjustable control, pretty simple

Found one that a few people on forum's said was a decent switch for the price

No worries, my dad had a couple of kenlowe fans fitted to his range rover but they sent a duff thermistor so we put one of the ebay ones on as a temporary fix until they replaced it. Worked well

I have a manual fan in mine that I fitted. Car had its MOT last month and was fine once I told them about it, passed straight away.

Wire it in parallel so you still get a fan override on the switch
