Hello All,

My car just died on me yesterday, driving along everything fine, revs dropped and it jus died, so i pulled up at the side of the road, tried to re-start it was turning over but not starting, not even trying. No smell of petrol when starting.......so got my dad to tow me home, tried bumping it no luck at all, so got home took the coil pack out, was shagged so bought a brand new one repalced, with new plugs, nothing no different when trying to tick over, i put £20 of fuel in the night before, but bought another £10 worth and put it in just incase, nothing. I can hear the pump priming so it may not be that, check battery connections, sensors, fuses etc nothing........Had a fiitter look at it, he think it may be a fried ECU :/...What are the costs im looking at for a new one?? or anything to look at??

There's a big red button on the top right hand side of your engine, make sure that's facing upright and then press the button down, then try starting it again

Check all the earths on the chassis and the gearbox too, there should be 2 on the chassis and one on the gearbox

Aslong as the earths aren't snagged anywhere and you are getting a good metal on metal connection with the earths, there shouldn't be anything wrong with them. Definately no water in the ecu or wiring loom?

might also be worth checking the crack sensor its where the engine and gearbox join a little way down the side has a small black connector if this isnt producing a good clean contact it will prevent it starting

we repalced that with new one yesterday, cleaned the first one up, didnt do anything, got a new one, cleaned the area up and still nothing with regards to that sensor.

Fuel injector relay under the ECU plate?
Also, does the engine light stay on or go out after a few seconds?

can you hear the fuel pump prime in the car when you turn on ignition?

edit: ignore that. forgot you already put that

by the looks of it your best bet is to get a replacement used unlocked ecu

any rough costs of these: im just thinking if its so much is the car worth it and jsut sell it for scrap. spent £120 on parts and labour so far just to have it not to start.

If a engine won't start.. then check the basics..

1. Got spark? If no - then clean earths / check coilpack / crank sensor.

2. Got fuel? - pop fuel line off the rail and prime the pump. If it's getting to the rail - it's still possible that it's not getting fired by the injector's.

(I had weeks of headache's trying to work out why I had fuel at rail but injector's wasn't spraying it through.. Turned out to be a loose injector. Simply refitted properly and it's been 100% since.. So worth a try.)

Don't give up so soon.. it will be a simple problem.

Its not getting spark nor fuel now by the sound of things. cleaned the earths, new coil pack, new plugs replaced crank sensor with another...yesterday the pump was priming nothing at all now. I've got an auto electriction going to look at it on sunday as the mobile engineer who came out did everything as above and couldnt find the issue, we'll see after sunday and see what will happen to it I.E Scrap or not.

if lucky you can get a used unlocked ecu for £20 - £40. post an add up on the wanted section on here. i got one for a tenner and another with a full loom for £40. just make sure you remove your immobiliser before you fit the unlocked ecu (if you get one) or your immobiliser will lock it and that wont work then.

Righht, its sorted now - it was the fuel pump and some injectors...they sorted it for £200 - thats with labour and parts with diganosis which i think is a good cost, but im still not holding any hope with the car, and constantly just waiting for somthing else to go wrong with it.
