Broke down this mornin 2 o'clock on a slip road joinin a dual carriageway, explained the situation, accelorator cable had snapped and said there were three young girls on the side of a busy road...

...their reply...

"someone will be with you in around 2 1/2 hours!!!"

WHAT!!!

in end gave up on em and had to get hold of me mates dad and he tied the cable together and had to free-wheel it home basically!!!

Ive never had any problems with RAC, which is why I was happy to form a partnership with Saxperience and RAC.

Obviously, their service could be compromised at certain times of day and locations, etc. But this is the same with any breakdown service.

do sax-p members get a discount or anything on rac? need to renew my AA one but if we get a discount then might think of changing....

Simo
6th August 2006, 16:46
Yes you do.

The prices currently shown on sax-p offer a 15% discount.. BUT later this evening I will be putting up the new prices.

RAC now offer Saxperience members a 25% discount on breakdown services. :A:

Simo

I think you get an additional £7 discount if you swap from AA to RAC too :P

My parents are with them and they obide by them - it was the fact that i was on my own in a frigging forest that i was angry lol

failing that they were a good company mind..but i stick with age concern lol

Simo

To be fair, you usually get preferential treatment if you say your a woman on your own, or with kids, etc. AGain, I would have thought all breakdown services tried to offer that.

Is it worth being with the AA then? I thought about joining when i first got my car but i wasnt sure which one to choose! With all the options and everything, at different prices!!

pug_boe
6th August 2006, 17:17
The RAC are good too mind especially with the discounts you get on saxp - basically same with any other company they all try and get out to you as soon as they can

have a shop around dave

you got to understand that they are busy 24/7 so you have to be patient with them

The time you break down has a lot to do with the amount of cover available.

Less recovery units work at night as in theory less people are on the roads. If someone is broken down miles away and needs a tow home, then sometimes you just have to wait.

My dad recently left the RAC after 30 years of being completely happy with them... because they let him down once. Most people forget the good times when something bad happens.

I dont have any cover ... think i should get some soon!
Is it just me that thinks i would not be to annoyed at waiting two hours, if afterall they fix your motor and get you home?? Its better than walking if you ask me

sillysammysnail
6th August 2006, 18:25
yer but when had to wait for aa,when crashed back along... they arrived, the bloke spoke no english and then didnt seem to have a clue what to do... a random person stopped and it was the petrol cut out switch that needed flicking!!!

surely a mechanic would have looked for somethin like that to begin with!!!

none of them seem to have the pull factor

You were covered on youir friends RAC cover... not all companies do that either. Often you have to be the member & driver.

It looks like RAC were a bit slow with you on this occasion, but on the whole they are very good.

I've been with them for a year now and no problems at all, called them out twice and they were with me within 30 mins.It depends if the person who is designated to the certain area is busy on another job which determines how long they will be.

yeh, i tend to agree, u cant complain about the time they take cause u might just be unlucky and they are very busy, if when they arrive their unfriendly/unhelpful or the work they do is unsatisfactory then i can understand u wanting to swap to another breakdown company.

In this case though 2 n a half hours and the 3 of u are stuck on ur own at 2am, calling a friends dad was the right thing to do, luckily he could help too but even if he couldnt, at least he might wait with you.

i broke down on a main road after they forgot to connect a fuel line on my car after a previous visit that day (i didnt notice it) 2 and half hours aswell they turned up its a long time to wait in the middle of nowhere on your own. Was great freezing cold and didnt have a jacket with me and started pissing it down with rain. Once they were there they seemed to be quite good got my car towed home and they were spot on it was the fuel pump that died.

Problem was i had roadside recovery only and i broke down at home so i had to upgrade my account for an additional £80 then they charged me £30 call out charge for a call out on the same day as upgrading :(

Simo
7th August 2006, 10:50
Thats testiment to the fact that you shouldnt always buy the cheapest!

roadside & recovery is the bare minimum cover, but its a big inconveniance if you want to carry on your journey or have your car towed to th egarage of your choice... or if you breakdown at home, like you said.

Top level cover is only about £90, which gives you all of the benefits. :A:

In all fairness the RAC have been good to me.

Once I needed to be towed at 3 in the morning and I was in the middle of nowwhere and they made it to me in about 45 minutes which isn't too bad.
And the second time my cat decided it would fall off, on a sunday (apparantly peak time) they said at least 2-3 hours and they got there in half an hour. Although saying that he did rip my side skirt off when he yanked the jack from under my car, lol...

Thats not bad prices, i get mine covered in my insurance so that will suit me, i have never been a member of the AA or RAC, but i may aswell this year as it costs no extra on my insurance!

In the past i have just fixed my own car, or one of my mates has given me a tow home !
