View Full Version : Scrap car prices?

Ok, so after some thought I am scrapping or selling on my car. Now I have been phoning around getting a shit tone of quotes from people, and it seems that for my 1.1 P reg I would get top end of £120.
Now call me stupid, but the amount of new products on the car seems like it is a waste! I can't swap them over either because the old stuff got binned.
The car runs, but has no tax or MOT, so would mean someone would have to trailer it to the destination. I do reckon I can get £200 for her though.
Thoughts people? Spare myself the hassle of trying to find someone who will trailer it, or make an effort?
Cheers.
What do you expect with no MOT or Tax worth nothing who cares if its got new stuff, £120 is a good price for a scrap Saxo.

Yeah I suppose you are right mate. Just been cheeky and phoning up several different places and increased the valuation to £140. I reckon that's pushing my luck.

Round my way you would get £80 max.

Scrap metal prices vary everyday, for a car at my local one it's about £110 atm.
Take copper for example, few months ago it was £6 per kg. Weighed some in today and it was only £4.50 per kg :(

So you reckon to just bite the bullet and go for it then? At least I could give her a decent send off with a piss up with the money!
That and save up for a new car..... of course ;)

Upto you, try moting it and selling it unless you know it will fail. If you want it gone asap then just drive it to the scrappy and cash in.

Ahh just made a classic error. Phoned up one company, they quoted me £140 beating another company that quoted me £130 and said I'll ring them back. Rung them back and they quoted me £110 again. Classic mistake!!

round me it varys from 110-130 Per tonne for "car scrap". Saxo weighs in at 1.3 tonnes. they are being tight as atm as they obviously have to make a decent margin. Im just stripping my car of useful parts then scrapping. There are far far far too many decent cars out there for little money (joy a recession) that a non taxed/mot'd saxo is worth scrap and not a great deal more. Sad i know.

According to Wikipedia (appreciate it's not a gospel...) the kerb weight of a Saxo is 935kg.

Hmm fair enough so 110 and 130 seem fair prices, however I can't seem to get more than 110 now!

Yes £200 from somebody buying it privately not from a trade. I am in a dream world, but that's not the point.
I also invite you to fart in my car, seeing as it could add value! Heck why not lay a couple in it?
Yeah Blackie cheers, just wanted to make sure I wasn't being completely mugged off!

Geez ain't times changed. Here in Scotland in the late 90's you would do well to get anymore than £25 for scraping your car & the talk was that soon the owner was going to have to pay the scrapyard.
I still think in Scotland you would get know were near £100 to scrap your car.

Surely a fixed saxo is worth more than 120, OK the money to fix, mot it.
I also think people can make a quick buck scrapping cars, not true unless your getting cars for free, a lot.

Nope. Have to disagree. The car needs at least £300 more to fix. I've put double that into it already.

Allsorts. Plus the big one, Piston rings, new exhaust cat, not to mention tools and stuff. Not worth it. Set my sites on a Focus now.

Lol'ed your not going to get money back for new parts, try selling it on ebay/autotrader or break it yourself if you want top dollar.

when i scrapped my old car i asked to borrow some tools to get my stereo out. they said 'thats £25 mate.' 'ok cheers mate' says i, thinking id get £25 for it (a smashed fiat uno) until the bloke held out his hand... once id taken everything i wanted, i had a crap on the drivers seat, locked the doors and took the keys. cheeky gits...

An honestly kind thing to say, but I don't have the funds to pay for parts at the moment. Otherwise I would give you a nice little list mate.
