I was driving home earlier and it was a road that had been recently relaid.
I was going 20mph witch is what the signs say. When i see a lorry approaching from the other direction at about 50mph.

As he went past a massive stone flicked up and hit my window. Now it has a bit chip and a crack in it. Im third party fire and theft so cant claim on my insurance. Is there anything i can do apart from paying someone to fix my windscreen ?

Bit of a shitter, but unless you could find the lorry and prove he was speeding then you're just guna have to fork out.

One of those annoying things that you can't really help. :(

Unless you got the company and reg plate i dont think there is a lot you can. If you did however get both of the information, write a letter of a complaint and invoice them the bill. Just a suggestion :y:

Even speeding there's no liability on the lorry, but if there was you'd need to prove speed. It's not your fault, but it's also not his.

Even if he did get the reg plate, they'd reply with "sorry, our driver wasn't speeding"

Suction cup on the windscreen for prevention.

Does that work ?

My windscreen on my previous car survived a couple of huge rocks, lost count of small ones, and a coke can thrown out at full speed from under a trucks' wheel while I was going at 70. Sweet fuck all I could do to avoid it but it still survived the impact.

Worst I had was a chip (after I bought a new car and forgot to replace the suction cup) with a tiny split, and got the windscreen replaced before it got worse. I was kind of glad my excess was only 20 quid for a new one, the cherry on top was replacing in 20 minutes in front of my house.

Basically what it does is absorbing more vibrations caused by the impact than what the windscreen is designed for (look at the progressive dots coating on the edges), and effectively protects the glass. 50 pence versus £250.

As above, nothing you can do.

Happened to me after some idiot decided to speed down the hard shoulder and a stone cracked my screen.

Hardly going to chase after him...

If your insurance runs out before your MOT, get windscreen cover on new policy, then get it replaced!

If not, then you'll be more out of pocket!!

I don't think it's in the way too fail a mot tbh mate. I will put a suction cup under there and see how it goes

i love sax-p

problem: my windscreen has a crack what can i do?
solution: bash a sucky sucky cup to windscreen lol

another suggestion....

ring insurance up, ask how much more fully comp is

then get free chip work done on windscreen, unless its badly damaged, then pay the excess

cost wise itll be
price of upgrade + free chip repair
or
price of upgrade + windscreen excess (under £100)

The chip is about the size of a 2p. The crack has spread too the size of a tax disc all the way round. :(

Put a new windscreen in or ghosts will get in through the cracks at night whilst you're asleep in your bed and they'll hide under your seats, when you go through a tunnel they'll come out and go "wooooahahhahahah" and you'll crash and die!

Diana's limo had a crack in the windscreen, I'm just sayin'

I had the same thing happen to me when i was going down a back round and a car passed the other way, was only a small crack, smaller than a 5p piece whihch i was told was ok to fill, so got that done for nothing as got windscreen cover. But as people have said nothing you can really do. Think my windscreen cover was only another 30 pound a year.

mine got smashed on leo last year was following skip wagon stone or something hit it and shattered full screen cant prove where stone came from out of skip from under tyre or for all i know it could have been thrown from car park i was passing. Dont use autoglass though they crap my insurance wanted me to use them said i'd have to wait 3 weeks for a new screen. Rang another company near me asked if they'd fit one through my insurance they said yes this was 5pm on a Friday night they had one in stock by 8am next morning
