I've got a 1.1 so no rear discs but I would still like to brake a bit quicker fo going round corners etc.

What decent set of pads/discs would you recommend for the front, prefer less than £100.

Also can anything be done about the rear drums to make them better, or put discs on them instead?

Can they be cleaned up to be more effective?

as i mentioned in a post b4 look for black diamond disc and pads as they are round 100 quid.

personally not worth doin a rear disc conversion if ur keepin ur car and putin a 1.6 vtr or vts lump in it as its to much hassel and u may as well in a few months get 1 instead savin u time and cash.

u can make ur drums a lil bit beta by use a wire brush and givin them a good clean but bout it.

Do the drums come apart than? Also how easy is it to fit the discs, i know pads are easy but time consuming, took them apart to paint the caliper.

yes they can be taken apart but its not worth it as the gains in brakin distance will not b noticeable. disc and pads change are easy.

take ur wheel off
undo the nut behind the dist to let the brake hose and calliper off the disc. chance the pads. and the disc is jsut a few bolts. easy peasy if ur stuck.. jsut go to halfords and if ur tight read the saxo manual in the shop if not buy one lol

no point upgrading brakes unless the discs are a larger diameter ie 206 gti/306 gti-6 brakes. fit brand new standards and save your money as you'll be hard pushed to notice the difference anyway, especially with something like the black diamonds. also leave the rears alone as they only do about 10%-15% of the braking anyway.

if they're standard size then they won't bite any harder then standard as you aren't increasing the surface contact area nor are you increasing the clamping pressure.
