What if races from far above are so advanced that, with ease, they could create through THEIR computer systems billions of artificial universes with artificial intellegences: a vast web and network for self sustaining life? what would bar us from being such a universe?

Cool story.

While high the other week me and my mate have decided we are going to make engines that run off salt water. We are going for the rotory type engine but we need to used a microwave on each combustion chamber to ignite the salt water. We had a lengthy discussion about this.

You ever have a dream about waking up, pisses me off.

As I wake up in my dream, brush my teeth, have a shower and get ready etc then I wake up and have to do it all over again.

Have you ever thought there was a greater power than man? Well there is... It's called greed, it's a disease... for example 'The Gadget Show's 500 prizes to be won' or 'The Cube - count these blocks, were there A: 3, B: 4 or C: 5' etc etc inbetween tv programs could be the greater power controlling our money because they are basically telling us what to do with these types of quizzes, no-ones ever gonna vote for the 'wrong' answer. Makes you think (when you're high lol) if they control our money then they also control our minds...

To teach the world the secrets of BODMAS

Could well be onto something there David. I'm open to learning new things, and I'm an enquisitive little twat. But I never want to be taught about that fucking rule ever again.

There is no bracket therefore fuck BODMAS.

I'm an Irate Pirate now. But yeah, Turnips are fucking sketchy.

I quite like turnip. Quite like carrots and swede as well. Nice when it's all mashed.

After taking a hefty dose of a special sort of fungus, I believed that my hand was a spider and my shoes could talk. They were really posh.
Then the carpet started to move and I freaked out. Luckily everyone else in the room was also tripping like troopers and all had their own shit to deal with.

Those were the days.

That shits gonna blow your mind.

I read some of that until i got to here... 'Other configurations have different values of the cosmological constant, and are metastable but long-lived. This leads many to believe that there is at least one metastable solution that is quantitatively identical with the standard model, with a small cosmological constant, containing dark matter and a plausible mechanism for cosmic inflation. It is not yet known whether string theory has such a solution, nor how much freedom the theory allows to choose the details.'

and i have no fucking idea what it's going on about lol... care to summarise?

I would love to and would love to understand more about String theory so I could maybe make some sense of it. However i think i would have to go back to Uni and spend a many number of years getting to just a basic understanding. Soooo i think ill just go back to watching top gear and dicking about and let someone else figure it out until it has an affect on my daily life.

I do wonder if our current lives could be a dream and when we die we actually wake up in another life. I wonder if there's an identical universe somewhere and someone just like me (poor bloke). I'll never know but it doesn't stop me thinking.

I've just found this for anyone that cares...

In a nutshell, the basic idea behind string theory is to assume that all elementary particles (particles that can't be divided into smaller particles) are strings that obey quantum mechanics, and work out the mathematics and physics that result from these assumptions.

In doing so, one finds that you can come up with a mathematically consistent explanation (or one without contradictions) of how gravity fits in with quantum mechanics. A mathematically consistent theory of quantum gravity is the "Holy Grail" of modern theoretical physics.

There's one catch though. In order for the theory to produce results that make sense physically, you need 26 spatial dimensions. If you add in the assumption that all particles have a dual particle (called a supersymmetric particle) that satisfies certain properties, you only need 10 spatial dimensions.

If you take the theory further, you find that strings are not the most fundamental objects. You can also have objects of higher dimension, such as branes.

You also have interesting relations between all the different formulations of string theory that lead some to think that they are all part of a larger mathematical framework that we haven't discovered yet, called M-theory.

Anyone care to explain special relativity? That shit does hurt my head :wall:

Think to yourself, "Who am I?" that voice you heard in your head is you. . . but what is that? where is it located... not your "physical" body... but where does that voice that makes you you, live?

The idea that everything we do is so insignificant and vain. What I mean by this is that in 100 years nearly everyone on this planet right now will be dead, and with those people and your own death will go any effect you ever had on peoples lives. Even if you have left a Mark of some sort, like if you become famous or leave an imprint on your children it will eventually die out, with their deaths and eventually the death of humanity. Whatever you do has no real meaning in the end.

Ash1711

If you shoot yourself in the head do you hear the gun shot before you die?

Dimensions. There are so many dimensions on Earth than the three we live in. There could be someone right now doing the same exact thing as you, be right where you are sitting at this very moment, the same exact person, if you will, and they have their own mind. This ties into parallel universes, which I'm not even gonna get into that.

Also the scale of the universe... check this out... http://htwins.net/scale2/?bordercolor=white

Anyways... that's enough from me now lol.

With the speed at which we, as humans, are advancing our knowledge in genetics, there will come a day when the mental and physical capacity of our bodies will be able to be altered to our parents' exact liking before birth. This will no doubt be only available to those with enough money to afford the service which will effectively negate fate altogether. We will be able to buy our own fate with the money we created.

Space... Dont get me started theres 11 different dimensions we live in, and flat landers that are 2d only, and at the moment were living in a 4d world... If you could fold time you could jump it and time travel, one to fuck with your head, 2 twins same age, one gets sent into space and the other stays on earth, the one that rockets around space will be younger than the other twin that stayed on earth :-) time space gravity peeps ;-)
