Hi everyone, about a month ago I bought a saxo furio so I thought I'd make a thread about it's progress.
Here's some pics of the car after a wash:
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/Car/P1000333.jpg
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/Car/P1000335.jpg
It's done 64k and only had 2 previous owners. It's completely stock (for now) except for the vtr alloys. The body is in really good condition, the engine bay needs a bit of tidying up though:
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/P1000337.jpg
Today's the first day I've been able to drive it as it needed 2 new front tyres before it was legal. I got them fitted this morning and it went well, until it decided to be a bit french when I was driving back from my mates house...
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/P1000338.jpg
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/P1000340.jpg
So the O2 sensor fell out of the exhaust and now there's a massive hole in it  Does anyone know how easy/difficult this will be to fix, and what parts I'll need? I can't seem to find a front pipe that looks anything like the section in the pic.
Cheers
Owen

Yeah that looks the most like it from anything I've seen, I'm going to try and take the damaged section off tomorrow so I'll know for sure then.
I also picked up some bits for the car and tools today:

http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/Car/P1000347.jpg
Going to order some new spark plugs as well, anyone know what type/make is best? I found thishttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bosch-Super-4-Spark-Plugs-For-Citroen-Saxo-1-6-VTR-VTS-/190681850200?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c65862158#ht_1633wt_1139 but I'm not sure if they would fit the 1.4

Always wanted one of those halfords kit so useful plus u can jus lounge round on the floor/use it as a bobsled....

Ok so I managed to get the damaged section off today, turns out it was the cat so I've ordered a new one that should arrive tomorrow.
Always wanted one of those halfords kit so useful plus u can jus lounge round on the floor/use it as a bobsled....
That's what I spent most of today doing lol
Gutted about the down pipe oh we'll get an upgrade
Can't really afford the insurance on any mods at the moment as it's my first car, need to get some ncb first.

Got the new cat fitted today! Also did an oil change and replaced the fuel and oil filters, and did a bit of cleaning in the engine bay.
Done:
Replaced Air Filter
Replaced Oil Filter
Replaced Fuel Filter
Oil change
Fitted new cat
To do:
Fit new rocker cover gasket
Change spark plugs
It's getting there :y:
New cat:

When I was under the car I also noticed a worrying amount of oil/fluid around the left front wheel and brake so I'm going to take a look at this next:
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/Car/P1000356.jpg
The brake fluid level is fine, any ideas what this could be?

Thats CV grease, boot is split or detached from the joint/shaft
OwenB86
3rd July 2012, 22:27
Ahhhh I hoped it would be something simpler. How easy is a new boot to fit?
OwenB86
4th July 2012, 21:07
Right I had a look at the boot today, turned out it was just a snapped clip causing it to leak :) I've put some more grease into the cv joint and re sealed the boot with a cable tie until my new clip arrives, so hopefully thats sorted.
I also started the car for the first time in ages! Drove it for a little while and the engine feels much more torquey, but it sounds a bit dodgy on idle and there seemed to be some smoke coming out of the exhaust. My new spark plugs and rocker cover gasket should be coming tomorrow so I'll see how it runs then, fingers crossed there will be no more problems.
I know I said I couldn't afford any mods yet, but I was looking through the post your ride thread and saw this furio:
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c394/puzzledzippy/CIMG0064small.jpg
So I've decided mine needs to be lower, and the wheels need to be black :) Would a 50mm drop get it looking similar to that one, or would I need more?
harry289
4th July 2012, 21:25
Keep the wheels silver!
40 or 50mm springs would be fine :)
OwenB86
4th July 2012, 22:07
If you say so :P
They need a referb anyway as there's loads of chips and scrapes on them. What's a good brand for the springs?
Also if I lower the rear torsion bar will that make the ride firmer at the back? I'd like it to be a bit stiffer if possible.
harry289
5th July 2012, 00:08
It will feel firmer yes. But all in all if you want it hard at the back (no sexual pun intended) then you will need thicker torsion bars and dampers to match.
As for springs Eibach sportlines lower 45-50mm, or Apex 50mm springs. Depends what you're after from your car really :)
OwenB86
5th July 2012, 19:17
haha ok looks like I need to do a bit of research first.
I replaced the rocker cover gasket today. Old and new:
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/Car/P1000357.jpg
One of the cracks on the old one:
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/Car/P1000358.jpg
Also sorted the smoking problem, turns out I just put a bit too much oil in
OwenB86
26th September 2012, 16:50
Right I've not posted here in ages because of work but I've done a few things to the car
Lower strut brace fitted
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/Car/P1000475_zpsfc3ea056.jpg
I've also got a full 106 gti half leather interior which I'll put up some pics of later.
It's also been going wrong again...
Engine warn light has come on and the engines tapping quite a bit, I think both the front tyres have slow leaks and something's wrong with the gear linkage :P
Plans:
Fix it
Lower 30mm
Tint front lights
Maybe get some ats cups

Found this under the car :n:
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/Car/P1000506.jpg
Can't tell where it's coming from, there's oil down the right side of the engine and all over the gearbox. Looks like sealant was used instead of a gasket in the first pic, I've found the same on the sump
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/Car/P1000509.jpg
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/Car/P1000510.jpg
Control arm looks fucked as well :(
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/Car/P1000508.jpg
Any ideas on what could be causing the leak? And how easy is a new control arm to fit?
Cheers, Owen

Think it could be coming from the oil filter cap? Make sure it wasn't over or under tightened as I'm sure both could cause it to leak

Nah just checked there's no oil around there, cheers anyway

fair enough, is it coming from above the cylinder head to block join? As when my head gasket went oil was coming from the join or maybe you didn't fit the rocker gasket properly? I'd spray it all down with brake cleaner turn the engine on and see if you can see where it's coming from thats what I did when I saw it coming out the head gasket

Just did what you said and I still can't see where it's coming from, I think the leak is quite slow. I'll check it again when I get to work tomorrow, hope it's not the head gasket :(

thats worst case mate, dont mean to worry you lol could be anything, its not the end of the world if it is, its about £200 in parts if you include timing belt and water pump and then a few hours labour not the end of the world if it is the case, my car was the first one ive seen here oil actually came out of the head gasket
or a good time to do a vtr/vts covnersion would take less labour than a head gasket change and would probably be cheaper, could get a whole vtr conversion for about £100 and few hours to do the swap
OwenB86
27th September 2012, 19:26
Still can't tell where the leaks coming from, going to change the rocker cover gasket again and see if it stops. May be getting a short shifter to replace the breaking gear linkage as well :)
Also ordered a few things:
5w40 fully synth oil
new sump gasket
timing belt kit

Yeah I guess thats not so bad, a conversion is tempting as well if fixing this engine costs too much.

Right managed to find the main source of the oil leak! The brand new rocker cover gasket was split all the way down one side :S It's leaking a bit out of the oil filter as well so I've ordered a new seal to hopefully stop that. I've also changed the rocker cover gasket, put on a new sump gasket, changed to 5w40 oil and fitted an induction kit.
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/P1000567_zps0ff14ae9.jpg
I know it's not fitted properly atm, got a breather filter on the way and I'm going to fill in the hole on the pipe. I've also ordered an obd2 to usb cable to see if I can get the fault codes myself, if not I'll just take it to a garage. Should be getting a laguna front splitter and some angel eyes when I next get paid :)

if you want ats cups i think you would need to go lower than 30mm to pull them off, my mates got them on his polo 6n2 and hes the sae height as my vtr which is lowered 50mm, but he still needs to go lower again to make them look as good as possible.
my opinion anyways :)

Fair enough they were quite expensive when I was looking anyway, might get some bbs ras or borbets instead then. Don't want to go lower than 40mm really so that it still handles.
josh11490
15th October 2012, 18:22
I think my mate paid £300 for his and the one had reall bad curbing so he had to get them refurbed on top of that.
I think any alloys with dish need to go quite low, 50mm looks the best on saxos i think, im down 50 and i dont have any problems unless i go to fast over speedbumps or something.
OwenB86
15th October 2012, 19:13
300 isn't too bad actually. I read that around a 30mm drop was the best for handling on here, mines got a lower strut brace fitted so I'd have thought it would struggle with speedbumps etc at 50mm?
josh11490
15th October 2012, 21:35
i think some people have a lower strut brace at 50mm, and i dont think they get many problems, im going to get one when ive sorted a few other things for mine, mine handles good at 50mm but ive never driven it at any other height to compare it too :/
OwenB86
16th October 2012, 16:30
Yeah I guess I'll just go 30mm and see, if it's too high I can just get some 50mm springs seeing as they don't cost too much.
OwenB86
19th October 2012, 13:44
Right finally managed to read and clear my fault codes, I got:
P0136 Oxygen O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1, Sensor 2)
Would sensor 2 mean the one under the cat?
OwenB86
2nd November 2012, 18:32
Update, changed my lower o2 sensor and the car seems to be running a bit better. The tapping noise is getting worse, not sure if its the tappets as it starts from cold but I'm going to adjust them anyway. Also my central locking broke today and my passenger door keeps jamming shut
On the bright side, got this waiting to be fitted as the near side cv is on its way out:
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/P1000579.jpg
Keep telling myself I'll get modding when it's fixed, but it keeps breaking again!

Picked this up off Oli-vtr today
http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g442/Owenisbad/P1000584.jpg
Toyosports 4-2-1 manifold with de cat pipe :) Is it worth heat wrapping it or should I just put it straight in?
josh11490
4th November 2012, 17:46
When I asked the same question about wrapping mine people said its best to, but on a road car I don't really see the point, it might help a tiny bit but after a while it would just look messy?
That's what I thought anyways :)
OwenB86
4th November 2012, 17:52
Ok I'll probs leave it then, did it make much of a difference on your car when you fitted it?
josh11490
4th November 2012, 19:16
Sounds a lot nicer with more of a rumble and a few pops, but higher up the rev range it seems to pull better. Seems to rev more freely as well, I find the car more fun to drive now as well and can't wait to go through a tunnel lol.

6th November 2012, 20:45
Got the manifold fitted, no pics yet but it blows from the joint between the de-cat pipe, even when fully tightened :( On the plus side it sounds amazing and feels a LOT faster :)
Also it does rub on my strut brace a bit as oli warned me but it isn't too bad at the moment and I don't find it that annoying.
OwenB86
7th November 2012, 18:18
Right sorted the blowing with sealant, here's how it looks:

How do the B8's feel with standard springs?
I would of personally just fitted the shorter springs all in 1 go because now you have tracking to do twice, also new droplink bolts because you cant reuse them.

Surprisingly good actually, a lot firmer ride but far less body roll.
Yeah it would have been easier to do both but I hated having the b8s sat in my garage and wanted to get them fitted, and I dunno what you mean about the droplinks they don't have any bolts? Do you mean the nuts, I did change those.
