A story if you will.

I was up at my wifes work last week where i installed office onto her desktop from my 32GB memory stick. Being in a hurry i naturally pulled it straight out when the install had completed (closed all windows first). I know i shouldnt have but we all do it.

Anyway i come to use it today and its dead. Doesnt show in my computer or in the device manager or in disk management.

I even went back to the XP work machine and still no joy.

Any ideas? Nothing to sensitive on the stick but 32GB memory sticks didnt come cheap when i bought it ages ago and dont really want to bin it

since im so impatient i decided to dismantle it. Which i have done right back to its bare bones and have managed to get it to work! So at least I can get the data off of it and just have to stomach buying a new drive as I dotn fancy trying to get this back together and into workable fashion again

Ahh well I would've tried running device manager scanning then clicking show hidden items to check if it was corrupted or not then gone from there, least you got your stuff off it! Lol.

32gb sticks aren't that expensive, I bought a 16gb SanDisk Cruzer off Amazon for £6.48 like 2 weeks ago, the 32gb model was £11 or so if that helps?

Forgot how slow flash drives are though, USB 2.0 average is around 5mb/s you get about 4.5mb/s with the NTFS format on the Cruzer and like 3.5mb/s with FAT32. Reflash as NTFS and optimize for performance and you get around 20mb/s which is pretty damn fast. Just have to safely remove every time or it'll corrupt.

Might have just been a dodgy connection?
