Hi there, the other day i tried to fit a edge 800 watt (4x80w rms) 4 way amp to my car. I did all the wiring and turned it on - the yellow light came on for a brief moment then it got very very hot and the light turned to red which it has stayed on ever since.
I doubled checked all my connections and have some neons wired up to the same points (seatbelt bolt earth under rear seat sanded down to bare metal & bolt in the small fuse box in the engine bay.
When i fitted it the crimping tool i had was pretty useless and so i dont have any proper connections on the end of the wire - ive just stripped them down and wrapped them around the bolts b4 tightening them up - could this be the problem?
Also acccording to what i read online and in the manual for the amp they say that a 8awg wiring it should be used which i have but could it be i need a 4awg one for this?
Or is it just the amp that was faulty to start with and with a replacement the problem will be totally sorted?
thanks in advance for any help

Sounds like an earth problem to me. Dont understand what you've done with your neons or the fusebox, but anyway, your earth should work with no connector on the end but I would recommend getting one put on it, or just find a big washer to squash the wire to the bodywork.
Earth points can be funny sometimes, so try moving it or just messing around with it untill it works.
Or it could be that your amp is faulty? The 8awg wiring should be able to handle it no problem its only a small amp

Im wondering if the internal fan on the amp isnt working, thats why it got hot.
Take the amp back out and connect it direct to the battery still using the remote from the head unit to turn it on, see how that works. If it powers up and stays powered up then its something you have done in the car.
Let us know please

i followed the guide on here about wiring it up and they reccomended the fuse box thing in the engine bay. nt sure why bt i just followed it
ive had a good fiddle around with the earth and tried 2 different points but it didnt change anythin. if the neons work fine tho on the same connection points as the amp though it does seem 2 indicate it could be the amp.
I did have a check and the amp is totally silent - if the fan is workin its very quiet so it could be that. i'll try wiring it up direct to the battery tomorow if it stops raining and see what that sorts :)
the amp is due for collection and return tomorrow afternoon though so hopefully they'll find a fault and send it me back :)

Where did you buy it from? Was it a shop?
They will probably exchange it as Vibe (Midbass) are a very good company, as long as you wired it right and it wasnt a fault with your wiring.
I know it sounds stupid, but did you connect the live and ground correctly to the amp, not the wrong way round or anything?

got it from caraudiodirect's ebay site - got everythin from there actually lol
yeh i did have a good check and made sure i wired everythin up okay - ive fitted 2 installs b4 so i kinda know what im doin im just worried a broke it myself like somehow making an easy mistake
think its just a faulty amp - just hoping i dont blow the next one as well. might get my wiring checked by a local car audio store 2morrow and see if they think its all good

Would think its been damaged in transit, chances are you have a blown capacitor or tranny... or a cracked solder joint..
I had a Maystar a couple of years a go used it for ages took it out one car put in the next and that was it knackered! just contact who you got it from and they should sort it bud
in saying that i have similar amp and red light = power and orange/yellow means its getting remote signal so i also suggest you check your remote wire coz if its broken then amp wont do nething...
think you can just bridge a tiny piece of wire from 12v on amp to remote and it should come to live but double check before you do... i might be wrong on that ages since ive done an install!!

Mate had an amp doing similar, worked for a few mins then over heated as internal fan not working so put it into safe mode.
