View Full Version : VTS bodykit to Desire 1.1... Need a hand!

Had a little bump a while ago and a mate pretty much gave me a VtS bodykit to fit to my 1.1 (saves me buying any parts to repair the current damage on the front bumper and wing)
I can fit the wings and bumpers but looking at the threads on here, I don't trust my self to fit the rear arches!
Does anyone know of anyone that could lend me a hand for some £
I'm in the Northampton area!

I'm too far away to drive up but it's a pretty easy job if you use adhesive instead of clips. Mine's been held on by tiger seal for about 6 months now and nothings moved.

What about the rear arches? Do you have to cut into them?
Thanks for the replies guys!

yes, the rear arches need cutting, hold up a vt rear arch to the body and you will soon see where it needs cutting

You still need to get a grinder out to cut the arches lol.

Would I have to put the rear bumper before the rear arches to make sure it lines up ok?
Or is there a better way to make sure?

fitting the bumpers will help you line up the rest

Do you need to rustproof the freshly trimmed arches?

Identical project :-) - Halfords don't seem to have any Tiger Seal at the mo, anyone know of comparable product. I'm guessing epoxy isn't recommened?

I think I'm gunna rustproof all exposed trims just incase.... I couldn't find tiger seal anywhere, not a b&q, nothing!
Can get it on eBay though and to be honest I wouldn't trust anything other than tiger seal myself!

The flat arch has a rolled lip for strength, I'll be honest, I'm fitting the VT rear arches only over a slightly damaged arch (why not?) plus bumper to match. Keeping the front original - not seen it here yet,
however the front only -rear flat arches look good - don't they?
There's a lot to consider for what seems like a simple mod, I'll post some piccies or maybe start a new thread with progress reports. :-)

i used tiger seal a while back on some XR2 arches. Its nothing special, its just standard stuff, most places sell an equivalent.

Right, I've actually put the bodykit on myself now... Just gotta let body panels set over today and then do side skirts tomorrow...
Note to self... Don't try to seal when it's hot out... Doesn't help!! Lol!!
I'll put some pics up later on a progression thread, I'll post a link on here to the thread too..
Wasn't a bad job... Just took a lot of waiting and patience... Back arches (for someone whose never used an angle grinder) weren't too much of a pain... Think it's just the thought of permanent cut arches that scare people that really Wanna have it done.
Looks high at the back.. But lowering it a little isn't a problem ! :)
I'm happy! Thanks for all the feedback guys- really helped!! :D
