Right im insured with elephant, last year i paid 710 on the vtr fully comp, it runs out end of this month, so went on elephant put in all my details and got a quote, 440 fully comp, so i thought id ring them see what why renewal quote is, so they went thru it all and tell me its 690...thought right, ok, so its dropped an amazing 20 quid and i have a 1years ncb now. told them it wasnt good enough and i wasnt going to pay 700 when i hardly use the car and will be away for a months and it wont be used, he put me on hold and came back told me he could drop another 60 off it, so it was down at 630, i said i had a quote for 440 from somewhere else and he said they couldnt match that, so im going to cancel it at the end of the month.
Im thinking that i cancel it and then open a new policy with them with the policy which they quoted me 440. It seems stupid how the same details can be put at 440 on the comp but when i ring up its over 200 difference. its all fully comp :S
so would you let it run out and then get a new policy with them? im thinking yes but unsure if there would be any complications
nearest quote to that is AA and its 100 more than them

That is fine mate as insurance is a one year contract, it won't renew automatically as far as I'm aware so there shouldn't be any complications. However if I were you I would just ask them why if you took out a new policy with them it would be 440 and they should be able to drop it to that price for renewal.

well on the screen he should be able to see what quotes ive been doin and should be able to see that quote, but he said they cant do it any less, i mentioned i had a quote for around 400 he said there was no way he could drop the price that much. It makes no sense to me at all

same here mate. my insurance wanted £1510 extra after a claim! apparently they didnt know i was a young driver on the policy. even though i was on the policy from the start.
i got a quote from the same company with an accident reported and got a quote for £800. they told me they could only offer that if i took out a new policy. luckily they realised they mistake.

I know somebody who's been in exactly the same boat mate. He too is cancelling and starting a new policy. The only problem is that with any new policy you have to pay something like two months premium up front (unless you pay for it all in one go). By re-newing, you only carry on existing monthly payments.

i pay it all in one go mate, if its only going to be 440 can pay it easily

Oh right... cool. Well in that case, start a new policy with them when it comes to renewal. Or... you could mention it that if you started a new policy, it's a lot cheaper than the renewal (when renewals should be cheaper than new policies because you've already had insurance through that company so have been using their services).
If they get funny about it, hang up and call them again. With a company like Elephant, there's a 0.01% chance of speaking to the same person twice.

yeah cancil it and start again, only thing is tho as you are quoting for a new policy are they giving you a cheaper price as they think you are having two policys? as i know a mate who had a car insured under his name and then when he called up to get it under his name he got a good quote but then when he wanted to take it out he cancilled the other then tryed to take out the cheap one but they said that price was quoted on the fact you were an exsisting costomer with another policy

you can log onto the site and get quotes on other cars, so i just done one on the VTR and came up with that, i cant imagine that it would get any lower that 440 Damo, im happy with that price so not going to try get it lower
