the S1/ S2 rallyes have a shorter ration box than the VTS i do believe i'm not interested in doing high speeds, more point to point and a shorter ratio box would help
is this a worthwhile swap or is there better options out there?

There is a common misconception that the Rallye uses a close ratio box. Its simply not true. The rallye uses the same gear cluster as the VTS. Its only the final drive that changes. You really have to match the box to the engine. The S1 rally was a high revving quite under powered little car. So you have to rev the tits off it for it to do anything. So this is more at home on say a 1.4 for wild cam and rev limit raised. However woefuller on a standard VTR or anything running boost. Even on a standard VTS for example you will find you can quite happily set off in 2nd gear so not ideal really.

I just remember when i had a rallye and everyone was wantin those boxes or the 1.4's
so is it best to just stick with what i have? I'm a bit confused by the figures in the thread that was linked

Do you use the car on the road a lot? or track only?

Fair play I dont think it'll be too bad with some sticky tyres on it, plus youve got the higher rev limit to give an OK turn of speed in 5th. Bare in mind though as said first is extremely "low" and you can spin the wheels easily - mines does if i'm not careful on 15 inch 888s and thats on a mild 8v
