Has anyone heard anything about the changes to the MOT as of next January. Im looking at lowering my vtr but apparently if any part of your car thats on the mot checklist and isnt from the origional manufacturer is an instant fail...which includes lowering kits. i reckon its a load of rubbish but i did hear it from my mechanic so did make me think. anyone heard the same??

There are a couple of mot testers on here such as tont's who will be able to give you a better answer.
But the tester I know said if the springs are in good condition and black he wouldn't even bat a eyelid at it. As for the rears there is no way to tell.

my mechanic does this for his friend abroad where they arent allowed to mod cars. i cant see the mot being this strict as to ban all mods, think how many companys would go bust?

Thats exactly what i was thinking!! A failure for corrosion etc fair enough but surely not for a lowering kit! no mod companys would make any money.

Have you not heard what they are trying to do to motorbikes..?
Against EU tampering?
Basically trying to stop any aftermarket exhausts and mods ect.
There is outrage as it is, if this happens for cars there will be huge outrage, and I for one am willing to participate in a protest with my saxo :clapping:

No there wont. There will however, be the usual threads on internet fora, a petition thread on pistonheads, and in the end everyone will just pucker up and take it like the new guy in the jail.

I'm having enough trouble trying to prove that the Clio having metal pedals isn't a fail as they're fucking standard.
I'm not paying for crappy rubbers to throw them in a box for mot time each year.

Renault told my testing station that rubbers are available, and so they've taken this as 'they're missing'
I bet the retards at Renault didn't even listen to the chassis numbernandnwill be trying to sell poverty spec model pedal rubbers.

I would tend to say bullshit, especially when you consider that insurance companies are allowed to carry out repairs with aftermarket parts on of 10 year old cars and older. Then what, you'll have to provide proof that recaros are standard on some golfs, or that the focus rs sits lower than the 1.6 etc. Or even as mentioned above, metal pedals.
Not to mention, that would put a lot of shops out of business including big ones such as halfrauds.

A thread like this pops up a few times a year. Always the same really. Early this year they actually changed things regarding warning lights which gave us an issue with airbags also the seat adjustability. And if im correct a few weeks after Vosa released something saying that if a car had been set up for racing / track days etc, then as long as it was safe some bits didn't apply. Like for instance having a fixed bucket, and if the entire airbag system has been removed then there is no light etc.
Remember rally cars still have to remain road legal.

This whole MOT business is a joke.
Luckily I know people in the business. I 'could' get my mot ticket without my car leaving the drive, but I do not want it to come to that. These new rules are going to encourage people to do things on the sly, and the government only have themselves to blame.
