It seems between us all we have a load of different bicycles.

I think we should have a thread where people post pics of their bikes saying how often they use them and what they use them for etc.

Go go go!

Raleigh Time Trial Bike

http://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad350/jay-young1991/IMGP0910.jpg
and I also had this at the same time -by far the best bike I've owned
http://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad350/jay-young1991/IMGP2081.jpg
which I stupidly stupidly swapped for a high spec BMX
http://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad350/jay-young1991/BMX/Photo0152.jpg

My grandad used to build me bikes as a kiddo, so I've ridden everything from an orignal chopper to a sinclair C5, to a BMX side car he built me

A bit of retro, mid 90's Giant Peleton 4130 butted cromoly frame and fork donated bare to us at work, chucked a load of bits I had lying about from old bikes and bro's unused bike bits, mainly Dura ace and Ultegra 9speed and ITM Millenium bar stem+seatpost, and another Flite Classic Ti saddle, Open pro rims, Sapim race spokes.

it should have, but I worked at a Giant dealer back in 2007 ;) £2250 frame + fork retail, total would be around £4k, I paid well under trade price as it was the last 2007 frame in the country when 2008 bikes were coming out in august 2007, was around a third of RRP... :D

The forkless 2009 TCR advanced is my brother's bike.

Carbon fibre seat post and front wheel look inviting to, it's shit having something nice knowing it's so easy for a scrotum to take it of they know how :(.

My BMXs with the exception of 1 and my "road" bike all have deliberately shit paint jobs with the branding rubbed off or painted over... Living in teeside they'd be pinched in minutes if they looked worth something.

Yeah I work in the industry and used to do some work alongside Abus, so I know the kind of testing they do on the locks so I know what they can take.

Also you showed me a test with chains, I used D locks. You won't get through either of those two locks with bolt croppers.

If I ever get the opportunity to I'll show you how to undo it very quickly with the same method as every lock of that type I've encountered, D locks are an awful way to protect anything in my eyes.

In fairness that does look like a GOOD D lock, but the bike also looks worth the effort.

Did any of you get yours though the cycle to work scheme??

I do around 400 miles a month and this was on my 18 year old fully rigid Trek mountain bike which I've had since I was a bairn. It started to give up on me a couple of months ago, so I looked into getting a new bike through the cycle to work scheme, but there were so many things putting me off...

I would constantly be worried about it being stolen. I couldn't just leave it outside a shop for a minute.

I maybe being made redundant in the near future so would have to pay the rest of the balance in full if I was.

IMO modern bikes have too many extra things to go wrong with them, disk brakes, suspension, etc, so I couldn't see one lasting as long as my previous bike, which over it's life has needed nothing more than a new headset, tyres, brake blocks, chain, and crank.

I decided I was going to get another old retro rigid mountain bike and ended up going to pick up a 1996 GT, she originally wanted £30 for it, but when I got there she told me her son had text to say the gears were broken, so I could have it for £10.

I bought a replacement shifter and it's as good as new now. I sawed off the crazy bar ends it had and it is fantastic to ride now. I prefer it for all round riding and comfort over my mates £1500 specialized I had borrowed, although that was a full suspension downhill bike, so different style altogether.

My £20 bike, and work trailer...

I find it funny when someone buys a mountain bike to use on the road.

Sayer, where did you get it from? Cowleys in Naff?

Never heard of a Giant Trance. Must be a MTB?

MTB is a very broad term people use to describe any bike which isn't a road bike or BMX.

Why?

Unless you know you will only ever ride on the road, or have a budget to buy both a road and a mountain bike, then a mountain bike is the better purchase (don't even suggest horrible hybrid bikes) lol.

I find it funny when someone buys a mountain bike to use on the road.

Why's that? I ride the majority of the time on the road, however most journeys I go off road once or twice, especially on my way to work. I'd kill a road bike in no time at all, and would feel restricted to one certain way to work/home.

Now instead of riding to work along the edge of the A19 and through Jarrow and Hebburn traffic, I can have a nice enjoyable journey along the edge of the river Don, through the back of some allotments, through two parks and I'm half a mile from work. Then I can still take my son out for a day trip on a weekend where I stick to the roads for most of the journey.

F**k me, I can't warrant buying one new bike let alone a bike for each surface I'm going to ride on!!!

It's an MTB, it's on order as it's a 2013 model - 4 week lead time :( It'll go no where near a downhill track. Maybe a kerb or two though.

This is my beef as well. Road bikes are fantastic for blasting along and looking all pro m shit. But with the UK roads progressively turning into farm track, more and more it's starting to feel like someone sledge-hammering that bit between your poopshoot and your balls when I go out on my roadie.

for £500 i had at the time, it was between this and the trek 4300 (maybe 3400) both where simarly spec'd, i was nearly put off the carrera by the fact it was sold in halfords, but i put that aside, thought about the 2 as if they where side by side, and when for the carrera kraken.

never let me down, been to glentrool and kirroughtree in scotland with it, and plenty of miles around trails to the south west of winchester and plenty in the new forest.

If it's not going to be used fully off road I would have been more tempted to get a higher spec hard tail than a full suspension. Still looks lovely though.

I actually want to get back into MTB and hopefully start hitting a few trails, plenty of good ones in the south.

Sold my GT Avalanche to my little bro and upon recommendation on one of the MTB forums I've just ordered one of these bad boys. They reckon it's one of the best sub-£500 bikes around. Don't really want to splash out on a high-end bike until I get good.

Fixies are fine for normal road use though yours looks heavy and over specced somewhat. I dont use a rear brake, but slow with my legs for general riding. Ditch that for a start :D
I'll take a pic of mine tomorrow with some new bits i've ordered!
I'm trying to work out how I can afford a full carbon frame for it at the moment.

It's on a free wheel at the mo.

Rear brake has been off since just after that photo.

Rather light aswell, I dont strain when picking it up with one finger hooked on the frame.

sounds a similar weight to mine. My fixie is a trick frame and wheels so strong rather than light. Total build weight is about 9kg. A very light setup is around 2 kg lighter but its often a balance between lightness and aero.

A 2012 Flash, not the carbon one unfortunately but got a good deal on this frame and already have a boat load of parts to build it up to an average spec. I fancied something with a bit weight/length to it, so bought the largest frame size.

Gonna stick some rigid forks on it, some heavy gearing and a decent front brake.

I have just got a new MTB. Fun story to it though.

I had originally bought an ex-demo 2011 Ghost AMR 7500 from Chain Reaction. It was described as having heavy chips and scratches and other wear. I was OK with that, mainly because it was only £1,400. £1,000 off the SRP.

When I received it the bike was a disgrace. It was filthy, not packed properly, no mechanic's report.

When I got it out of the box I noticed the forks didn't line up with the bar stem, the rear wheel was fucked, the front wheel wasn't so good either, the cranks were heavily scuffed and the saddle was horrible.

The best part was the nail holding the rear brake pads in.

http://i861.photobucket.com/albums/ab177/Viperzs/Damaged%20Ghost%20from%20CRC/F3A6E70A-4526-4802-B268-E30DD088E588-1446-000001A7B3751B39.jpg

Rear wheel: http://s861.beta.photobucket.com/user/Viperzs/media/Damaged%20Ghost%20from%20CRC/A6784532-846C-47E2-8445-84289EC57E54-3806-000004F35DB47E0E.mp4.html

I took it into work for the tech guys to have a look at it to see if they could find anything else. They did. The bottom bracket was also loose.

I emailed CRC to let them know the disgraceful piece of shit I had been sent. The next day I got a call and they offered my a brand new 2013 model at no extra cost. Seemed a good idea to me.

It was an amazing review! You don't often get full marks from the magazines. Pedal wise I should be fine as I bought my own to go on it. Weight wise this one is pretty light. I think it's 12.5kg? Not sure if it's an improvement over the 2011 though.

You might want to check for a blog by David Kerr from filey. He literally split his Kula Watt Frame in 2 after 2 weeks of normal riding.

Fucking nice Tom bet that doesn't weigh much, how does it ride? Is it quite stable. I won't ask how much it cost it will make me more jealous lol

I'll have a look for that. Good job Kona have a lifetime warranty for their frames!

That photo was about an hour out of the box so it's only been round the garden so far. It picks up speed incredibly fast. I'll get it weighed at work soon, it feels more like a heavy road bike than a mountain bike. Lol

This is my bike. I built it from scratch, buying "last year's" components, and an older frame. (not quite finished in this pic). Pity I do not currently have time to use it.

Just treated myself to a new specialised camber carbon model, so so light and awesome on road and light DH. Wouldn't fancy going mad tho as I'm scared of breaking the frame in half. Not got any pics of it tho but heres a generic one from the shop i got it from

Rorz, that Spez frame looks nice! I don't usually like Specialized bikes but that's cool.

It is incredibly stable, very stiff frame but doesn't feel solid at the back. The power transfer on it is fantastic, it picks up speed so well!

I had it weighed at work today and it's 10.5KG (23lbs). That should get a bit lighter as I want carbon cranks as well.

Sorry to bump an oldish thread. Was riding an old GT Avalanche 3.0 that I bought off a mate. Was too small for me and always have me a bad lower back, but I still loved riding it. Finally decided last week I needed something better.

Ended up with this, a second hand Voodoo Canzo. Pretty good bike and lighter than my GT. Needs a couple of things sorting but it's much better to ride!

2013 GT Avalanche is what I'm rocking at the minute. Not a perfect mtb by any means but a fun toy and good for a novice like me to get back into things.

Just ordered this :)

Supersix has been treating me well. Put a 50/34 FSA S-LK on it which freed up a fair bit of weight. Replaced the tyres with Ultremos (which are seriously light and slippy :) ) and then replaced the inners with Eclipse's. Thebike is in at 7.5 kg. Plan to replace the wheels with some nice light handbuilts - not sure whether I go for a climbing set or a 50/60mm carbon set.

Trance X3 is getting a bit of a rocking on the trails (finally!)

Why have you bought another bike? What would you use that one for instead of the current Cannondale?

Got a link to the lights? I've just got an exposure sirius for the front as my commute involves some unlit lanes. It's pretty good but £18 for 1800 lumens is hard to ignore lol.

It won't actually be 1800 lumens though. The LED used will be rated for 1800 but a shit quality light will be lucky to get 1000. Beam pattern will be shit, probably get too hot and won't last.

Buy right, buy once!

I've got a Bikehut (lol) 1200 lumen, the beam pattern is awesome, but the ninjibongo 1800 is far brighter (Agree that's it's not 1800 lumen though). As you said the beam is really tight, in a spot basically. But this can be changed with a wide angle lens placed in (which I've done) - And now it's superb. Ideally another one would be great for attaching to the helmet and keeping as a spot for that and mount the wide angled one on the bike.

Even the guys on the club ride were asking about it and two went and bought the same ones off ebay straight after.

Here's the link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CREE-XM-L-XML-T6-LED-1800-Lm-Bicycle-bike-Head-Light-Headlamp-Rechargeable-Head/251288567677?_trksid=p2047675.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D555003%26algo%3DPW.CAT%26ao%3D2%26 asc%3D17233%26meid%3D1614950309420376549%26pid%3D1 00010%26prg%3D8045%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D2513 47465263%26

And here's the link for the wide angle lens.

Here's my pedaller, it's not quite as clean currently given the turd weather.

http://89.234.3.35/Matt/BoardmanWeb.jpg

It's a 2013 Boardman Road Sport, it's pretty much an entry level Boardman, but it's also my first road bike so it's more than enough to be getting on with. I've lashed a small saddle bag on it that I can get a spare tube and tyre levers in, means I can leave the rucksack at home on longer rides, and I ditched the Vittoria tyres for some Michelin Pro4 Endurance with red stripes as I'm a bender.

Bar that I put cheap Shimano SPD's on it, and rode it lots.

Certainly seems to be, I lashed them on at the back end of the summer, I've covered about 800 miles on them so far with "touch wood" no punctures or anything, they're coping well with the crap northumberland roads and general crap that's on the road at this time of year.
