Sorry to post this, complete noob here..

Just bought a set of 406 brembo's, they came with mintex pads and discs, but i dont want them to squeel like a pig in heat everytime i touch the pedal :homme:

So im looking for some xantia v6 discs.. I went to my local motorfactors and asked if they could get some, they said yes but ill need to give them a reg number to find them?...

and im a little confused on which ones ill actually need? i like the look of drilled and grooved (yeh im sad, they gotta look good).. so where to look for discs, and kinda how much are they?

Any help would be much appreciated :)

Please and thankyou!

Gti-6 or pug 405 discs. 283mm NOT 288mm. Xantia have a different offset and do squeal.

I really don't get why people use the too thin too small diameter 283x22 discs, you NEED the C5 or Xantia 288x28mm discs

Tarox G88's are what you need if you don't want squeal.

edit, a little cheaper here

They did a V6?

Quite a few people recommend the DS3 set up, worth looking into

I disagree I'm afraid. 288mm will squeal. Tested 6 different disc setups on mine several years ago. 288mm x 28mm are also significantly heavier.

As above - Peugeot 405 or gti-6 discs are my preferred choice, but do your own research - some interesting posts already in this thread.

Why you'd be worrying about the disc thickness (22mm vs 28mm) on a car that weighs under 1000kgs I don't know - either disc is designed to adequately dissipate heat hauling up a 1500+ kg car without fade. Id be much more worried about the unsprung weight. Your thoughts?

Whats the minimum recommended thicknesses for standard V6 28mm thick discs? Just wondering as it seems a bit risky to run 22mm discs if min thickness for the caliper is anywhere near that...

i run 288mm xantia discs...one side queels alot..they other side doesnt squeel much

they were a right cunt to get the pads in as well when i first fitted them

they don't squeal with G88's, you just get a whirring sound :D

the caliper is designed for a 28mm thick disc, min thickness for the stock 28mm thick disc is 26mm!!!

you'll also lose a bit on going too small a diameter disc, the pad will overhang them!

dont forget you will also need pro race 1.2's or similar, as wheel clearance to the caliper is at a premium.

tbh given the costs of them, I would just use gti6 brakes if you really do need the leverage of a big disc, the total package weighs no more.

Are these calipers for a VTR btw..?

I got told they were a massive overkill even for a standard 16v, even the gti 6 ones are abit? :/

sorry for the hi-jack boys.

you are correct yes, massive overkill for most, good pads and fresh fluid will do for most on here.

what most do not realise is that the standard brakes will lock up just nicely, all you are doing when fitting bigger brakes is adding weight and heat coping capability, which most don't need.

<<<<I only have 283's on that 1100 kilo 180+ bhp ZX because they're cheap enough, I;d have stuck with the original 266's if they weren't shot!

Thats what I was wondering. In which case, fuck using a 22mm disc, esp with worn pads!

Now that's something I'd never considered when I tested all those disc/pad combos years ago. Good shout guys. Never crossed my mind to think about minimum disc thickness. Schoolboy error! :panic:

At least we're agreed a large setup isn't actually needed - Titch runs his 300+ Bhp 106 on gti-6 brakes (ebc pads) just dandy. I agree anything medium power and below that's overkill :)

so does that mean I should change my disc's asap as I'm running the Gti6 ones I think.

Ive got a set of 16" 7J 1.2s ready to go on :)

Yup, on road to be 16v'd tho ;) just collecting parts ready

Ive bought the brembo's purely coz im a style whore and think they look awesome, they are currently black and have mintex disc's and pads, + braided hoses

I havent fitted them yet, sat in the box ready to go on, just ive been told the discs squeel so im looking for some that wont squeel and look good at the same time ;)

G88's do look damn pimp, PR 1.2's should clear, they are one of the few that do if they are the correct offset, which is 15 IIRC.

naah, buy my gti6 calipers and some decent pads :D more wheel clearance!!

I've already got my brembos refurbed and fitted...

no squeel at all but I don't know what the downside of running the thinner disc is?

Edit: just seen previous page, gti6 ones

anyone else recommend these? or shall i invest in some of these g88's?

Ive just won some brembos on ebay but running gti6 brakes atm with standard ebc pads. Im not sure if gti6 brakes will be good enough for 300bhp though.

i will drop you a detailed pm regarding the squeel as soon as i have the time to get on my laptop.

reason being i found it to NOT be the discs which caused the squeel.

will explain all in my pm and share some ideas with you that you may want to try (i never got the chance to)

the squeel is normally the daft shims that run down the side of the caliper

if you keep them nice and clean they dont squeel on mine..but by fuck am i doing that every 1k or so
