View Full Version : Will a garage get humpy about supplying my own tyres?

Need two fronts changing and can source a couple of decent makes myself cheaper so will just need fitting.

If I drop it into a garage and just ask for a fit/balance/track are they likely to get humpy about it cos I never bought the tyres from them?

Just thinking out loud

Do see why they would..... If they do go else where

I have done it several times before.

No tbf just take you wheels up to a tyre place like national tyres and ask them to fit and balance ect.

If I were you I wouldn't care less personally, just call them and say you have tyres but they just need fitting.

Where are you getting them? Part worn? Are they not able to fit them?

They should be fine, ring up and ask beforehand.

I will be doing the same when my two front ones need doing in future.

Its what I do every time, usually between 5 and 10 quid per corner.

Bit harsh, not all do - some only fit tyres supplied by themselves. Always best to ring and check.

Local garage by me has a sign up saying "You wouldn't take your cow to McDonald's to be cooked so son't ask us to fit your own tyres" other than this its a decent garage though.

I expected them to be after I read it, but in all other areas they bend over backwards for you.

+1 If it were me it would put me off. The attitude isn't good.

Shouldn't see why there would be a problem, as said they will be taking your money, no problem.

Know quite a few garages who refuse.

They make a nice mark up in tyres and the fitting cost naff all.

They'd be stupid to turn it down if you ask me. Possible £40 for what, 20 minutes work and a few valves and wheel weights?

They will probably beat you with a bat

Tis true, iirc i get charged more to fit than they would charge if you bought their own.

But they cant supply the tyres i want :(

I've learnt to only buy part-worn. £15-20 quid a tyre, fitted too. (Obviously depends what wheels you have, but mine are small :y: )

depends on the place. kwik fit in maldon will fit them but only if they are new with stickers on them, kwik fit in chelmsford wont fit any unless they supply them. a mate of mine works in a garage at weekends (so he can get help with his banger cars) and done 4 for me for a tenner fitted and balanced.

Local independent garage owner said 'We can do them cheaper'. When he asked where I got them from.

I 'lold' in his face, until he gave a me a quote. And then I cried.

Time after time these guys beat everyone, even the internet sites - no idea how they make a profit tbh

ask a stupid question.....

if a place get arsey when your turning over cash, go somewhere else, plenty options out there

At the garage I work at, we don't make much from selling tyres but we make the money fitting, balancing and wheel alignment.
