mk2 clio

i got a mk2 pase 1 clio with a starting problem..
while turning key it would just click, so suspected starter motor but still after a change still the same. ive tried bumping it but still wont start sounds like a grinding noise while i lift the clutch.
could it be immobilser stopping car from starting? its been driving me nuts

ye dash lights come on as usual when ignitions on, but when turning key the battery light go's off
