Hi all. I'm about to do a full audio install in my 01 VTR Facelift and am having a hard time in deciding what exactly to do regarding the front speaker wire.

I've looked at ALL of the sticky posts and have taken note of various opinions but some of the threads have missing images and I'm certain they'd be crucial in finding out how to renew the wiring in a professional manner.

Some people suggest using the standard wire, (at least the section that uses the grommet and goes from the door into the vehicle itself). This would save me a lot of time for sure but having to make additional joints really annoys me to be honest.

Others recommend drilling holes and using rubber grommets from Halfords but again, I'd rather not take a drill to my car.

A few posts have mentioned the fact that they have used to proper grommet and it's these posts who's images and shortcut links don't appear to work, (grrr).

After having a look at my grommets today, it does appear to be EXTREMELY tight inside the original grommet and I'm straying towards using at least a couple of foots worth of the standard wiring to get me past this obstacle. Once inside the footwell, I could chop the wire and start right there with my new oxygen free stuff but I'm still hoping that somebody has got an alternative suggestion.

Just to let you know, I'm running the following gear:

Kenwood KDC-6051U head unit
Kenwood KAC-8405 4-channel amplifier
MB Quart RUA 213 front component 5.25" speakers + tweeters
MB Quart DKH 110 rear coaxial 4" rear speakers (I'm old Skool and like rears)
Edge 10" Active subwoofer in the boot area

Any suggestions on how I might get around this issue in a 'proper way' then gang? What with the speakers costing me £200 for both pairs and the whole package setting me back way too much lol, I'm obviously looking at doing this in the neatest possible way.

I work in a school too, so I've currently got plenty of time to do this properly too...hence wanting to remove the rear seats and panels in order to replace the speakers with some juicy MB Quarts.

I'm also going to mount the front crossovers on top of the rear glove box area as I think it'll be smart, neat and tidy. I might even take out the front seats and run power, RCA's and speaker wiring completely independently to one another.

Cable ties...check
PVC tape....check
Toolbox......check
Time..........check
Worried shitless........check lol.

Sorry for going on and on, but I'll lose bloody sleep over this unless I do it properly lol.

Thanks gang.

Fr0sty over & out.

could do what i did and just ripped out all old speaker wires not hard to do, and worth it in the end, dont cut it at the footwell , i started at door , fed the speaker wire upto the rubber gromit between door and shell, i removed the gromit fed the wire through it then into car you will need to removenthe gromit inside car with speaker wires coming through it its a bit fidgity but easy once you know how

Thanks for the reply mate. I want to leave the existing wiring in tact just in case I ever sell the vehicle on, as that way I could take out my new gear and replace it with the original equipment.

You say that you removed the grommet, but how? as its got all the original cabling running through it and it's a sealed rubber/plastic object.

Anyone got any links to some 'how to's?
