Every single Dell laptop I have ever encountered has had hard drive failures.
For servers I could never fault Dell (we had many hardware failures on those too although they replaced them every time - we did pay a lot for service though), and I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole for a home computer.

very good value for money are the acers. you can get a good spec for well under a grand. i got an acer aspire 1680 (i think it is) last year for about 600 quid and its still very nice :Y:

depends on the spec too be honest too, dont just buy a laptop because of its make, check the specs out
dont goto pc world, comet, currys etc...
unless you have deep pockets and love giving money away
get it online as itll be cheaper

I use Ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/store/5/category/Notebooks/Laptops/rb/20937942654), great value, delivery times are a little slow though, alot of the products have user reviews and they stock alot of brands too - worth a look!

Thats the site I could not remember, thanks for posting that!
I need a laptop too.
I have been told to go for intel centrino.
I do fancy a pentium D processor, but they are quite expensive.
