1st of all hi everybody just bought my 1st saxo after being a jap car fan for years after tocking up my license to 9 points i needed something cheap and cheerful on the insurance side so bought a 1.1 s reg saxo, only thing is due to being in a rush to get to work i couldnt be botherd checking hte car over properly i made the stupid mistake of taking hte sellers word and now car over heats like mad!! i took the radiator cap of found hte dreaded creamy signs so jsut to do a few checks i stuck some engine flush in went for a 30 mile drive (ignoring the daft temp warning light) came home and drained the system, when engine was cold ran water through the system for 15 mins to make sure it was only circulating clear water, now after that re did the engine coolant, bled the system using the 3 bleed points (radiator, thermostat and heater matrix).

i then noticed the car still over heats but none of the signs for any oil mixing with water is appearing (using coolant or water) i also noticed that there seems be a 1-2mm circular hole just below the cap on the expansion cap( is that suppose to be there?? i dont know as never owned or worked on a saxo) also the heaters blow cold all the time, im thinkin maybe the engine cant pressurise due to the little hole in expansion tank? or is that suppose be there and ive missed somethin? or is there somethin more major wrong with car, any help appreciated

also im thinking of ordering new rad and rad cap and new thermostat

im wondering if maybe water pump needs changing or maybe heater matrix blocked?

I was having the over heating problem, could only go a couple of miles before all the lights would flash up and it would over heat and stop. I actually found I had a small leak in the radiator. I put in some Radweld and let the engine run for 30 mins and it was as good as new, hope that helps a bit

ok so another run with engine flush in the system, waarnin light came on within a mile and was that annoyed with teh car decided just rag it out of lights on dual carrigeway and warning light went out, then on then off and was like this for 30 miles, came home let engine cool and drained all water and flush, removed thermostat andit was slow opening so bought new thermostat put that in same thing so tested that thermostat and didnt open at all so got meself another 1 and whilst was at spare place bought a brand new radiator not a recon 1 going fit that tomorrow. failing this im going have buy a compression tester and check the head.

what is the best way to bleed the system?

All the times i've bled saxos..

I just open the 3 bleed nipples, cut the bottom off a 2 litre bottle.. Get another bottle/bucket/big jug full of water..

Fill the cut bottle, covering the lid with your hand.. put inside the filler neck.. and keep the bottle full by using the larger bottle / container.. Keep filling until water comes out of bleed holes.. let it come out for abit to make sure all the air's gone - shut taps - top up with coolant / antifreeze.

Never needed re-bleeding after.. worked every time for me.

i wouldnt run it without a thermostat i would rather spend the few quid they cost for new ones than run without 1
