Hi,

New to the forum, hoping to do a lot of reading over the coming weeks on old threads and try and learn more. Just bought my first Vts its a ph2 2000 model, loving it so far, its standard barring i suspect an uprated flywheel.

Bought it from a mate as I was at a trackday yesterday, and took it for a session and fell absolutely in love, I was in the market for a daily driver so it came at the right time. Easily more fun to drive on track than the Impreza I brought and thats saying something surprising turn of speed and handling all in all i'm well converted.

Looking to learn and get advice and source a few parts maybe as the eventual plan is to have a nice fast road car thats very capable on track.

Only Pic I have of it parked beside my other track car yesterday in Mondello Park in Ireland

Aforementioned subaru which being a type ra with diff controller isnt slow or lardy on track and I ended up driving the saxo all day instead

Hope to have some more pictures up when I have time to clean it and service it.

Thanks
Bevan

Thanks, thought their would be a few Irish on here alright, back in the early 00's vtr's were very popular here.

I've only done three trackdays so far but they are so addictive, I used to be very big into jap stuff, and had a lot of corolla gt coupes and jap levins and truenos, so i'm an admin on ae86irl still and I'm lucky enough to get to tag along to the track days run by the site. 120 quid for a day is brilliant value.

I'm thinking of joining some of the next trackdays run by octane.ie and mondello run their own days. Actually next year theirs rumoured to be a spin off of the Irish touring car championship for hot hatch low budget racing aimed at saxos and 106's so if i have the funds i'd like to try a few rounds.

I had in car cameras i'll load some video to youtube tomorrow, and in the vts i was keeping stuck to the bumper of a 190bhp supercharged twincam, and keeping with the new toyota ft86 we had a dealer bring one to the track day and he brought it out for the grip sessions and i managed to get in behind it

well actually im english but live in ireland now ha. yeah closest thing iv done to track day is go karting.. iv been thinkin about goin up to mondello for a while now, i say il do it some day wen iv spare cash lying around an have a bigger car only in a 1.1 at the moment so probly wait till i get a 1.4 1.6 till i go up to mondello. yeah would love to see the videos of that sounds epic. surprising how fast them vts really are.

Genuinely the lightness of the car and the chassis makes up for the lack of power, I never got it out of third much as the track is relatively short but you can carry so much speed it shows up much more powerful stuff.

I would say i'm a mediocre driver but by the end of the day I was having the confidence in it to late brake everywhere and flick it into corners, left foot braking the whole lot, I liked it so much I bought the car. Honestly i'd say it was lifting the back wheel every corner.

You should maybe do one of mondellos driving school days, they have a fleet of mazda mx5's and mazda 3's and single seater formula v's up there for the track school i think a half day is less than 250 euro

yeah think i might save some pennys an do it sounds like so much fun an always wanted to do some track driving to see how id be on the track and mondello looks like a really nice tight track to drive round. or might leave it few months considering im still learning an plus still have to get my full liesance.. but its definitely going on my things to do lists.
