As to be expected, some heart-felt responses to an emotionally charged topic.

When I consider that the UK has one of the best education systems in the world, I can't understand how so few people seem to not have a clue about the history of our nation (and it's interactions with the rest of the world). The history of the troubles we face today extends far beyond the last 5 years, but this would be a very long and boring post if I attempted to answer that.


When Jean Charles de Menezes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Charles_de_Menezes) was shot dead by Police in London last year as a suspected suicide bomber, many people (including many Saxperience members) were leaping for joy saying that he deserved it. There was even an eye witness who said "I saw an Asian guy run onto the train hotly pursued by three plain-clothes police officers".

When it later emerged that Jean Charles was a COMPLETELY INNOCENT electrician, did anyone return to retract their statements? And was the guy asian, or was that rather what the witness wanted to see?

As I did back then, I'm going to hold back on making a judgement on the latest incidents until all the facts are out, rather than jumping to rash conclusions.


Many more people die EVERY DAY in the UK from alcohol/drug/smoking/motoring related injuries than from terrorism. But how many people here would seriously back a ban on alcohol, drugs, cigarettes or cars? Not very many I bet even though it would probably improve the lives of millions or people. Well ok, maybe not cars - because without cars there would be no Saxperience :wink:

Don't misunderstand me, terrorism is a very bad thing and I am COMPLETELY against it. Just don't forget that there are plenty of other bad things that happen too, although they don't necessarily make popular headlines.

Resorting to racial stereotyping and dividing communities is exactly what the terrorists want - to cause dis-harmony and chaos. So if you start blaming one group or another then you are helping the terrorists achieve their aim.


When the asian tsunami hit, millions of ordinary British people donated money to help. That was fantastic to witness. Yet MORE people die EVERY WEEK in the world from starvation than died as a result of the tsunami - how come we don't help them?

I am proud of the fact that the UK supports asylum seekers. There are many people around the world in genuine need and I would help them as much as I could every time (especially when in many cases their problems were originally caused by the UK).

I am much less inclined to help the hundreds of thousands of welfare system cheats who have an easy life paid for by my taxes, the majority of whom are non-immigrants in fact. If an asylum seeker abuses the system then kick them out I suppose, but kick out all the British abusers at the same time!

I know many asylum seekers and immigrants and I can say for sure they are damned grateful to be in the UK (rather than dead where they escaped from) and they work damned hard to earn their wage. Many would also love to return home, but it isn't safe to do so.


It's a complex problem and I don't have all the answers. We just need to be careful not to tar everyone with the same brush because of the bad behaviour of a few. Otherwise we risk making things worse.

we shouldnt be getting involved in all the conflicts anyway.most of the trouble in the Middle East are a direct result of interference of outside countries (e.g. UK, France, USA and Russia) but that's a very very long story...

We do enjoy a good quality of life in the UK these days, but a lot of that is at the cost of many other parts of the world where we have seriously messed them up. A little historical context would work wonders on people's understanding.

This is turning into a religious argument, when religion has nothing to do with terrorism. I can't think of any christian suicide bombers either, but Hitler was a christian - that doesn't mean all christians are bad!

We're all together agreeing that terrorism is a bad thing (the whole point of this thread) - please don't spoil it.

I was born in britain mate, i have no hatred towards any other religion and no desire to kill anyone. In my honest opinion, i think they are BORN MUSLIMS, muslim by name but definatley not by NATURE. They all come from poor 3rd world countries, its very hard living in these countries, lack of education, food, etc....

Frustration : how long can you sit in a place and starve and watch your family starve? Then 'they' come and offer you a way out....
