lowering a 98 vtr

i want to lower my vtr 50mm all around , ive got 16" OZ alloys on , so hope it wont be to much , i no the front is pretty straight forward just swap springs over , i get the idea with the front. but the back do you have to touch the tourjen (how ever you spell it) bars ? cant you just drop you lowering springs on ?

got lower by torsion bar by removing them
