I've always liked them and looking at getting one as a step up from my VTR.#
Considering I've just landed a good new job I'm thinking of getting something with the same fun value as the saxo but with more power.
For the price, these days they seem to be well decent value ?
What you rekon ?
They seem to be knockin around for around 2.5 - 3.5 k

Been looking at these and for the most part people seem very dissapointed by them as they didnt really live upto being the succesor of the 205 gti, although they are 180bhp standard so they must be somewhat fun?

TBH, though, most people who drove the 205GTI new back in the day will always remember that old skool feeling. So its never going to be " as good ".
But having said that, I've heard other people tell me they've loved them.
I'm thinking price wise, first off I rekon its good value.

All i ever read about these is that they are not anywhere near the 180bhp claimed power..
Plus the driving position / view is shit.
CTR over a pug 206 anyday :)

Trouble is you gotta think where im from. Brum, full of a certain community raggin the fuck out of type R's everywhere un insured. I see the police pulling them daily. I want to be inconspicuous and the Pug 180, ive never seen one round here, Not once.

I hear lots of cars are not near their claimed power. Apparently the later models are closer to 180 than the earlier ones.

True! supposdly there was something on watchdog regarding them having an engine fault, not entirely to sure about this I guess google can help and as people have said I think the CTR is a better shout but I guess this is something a bit different

Ive just been readin a few snippets from an old thread.
They are quite heavy for a hatchback and you will never find one that is actually 180bhp because they didnt even make 180 out of the factory...
& the Clio's have the same issue with power.
Fully agree with what you said, the front seats in the 180 were the dogs bollocks!
One of my mates had one for a first and can remember being put in the back of my seat unexpectedly was suprised how quick it was and remember seeing it top out at 145 (on a private road of course i do not condone speeding in any way ;)) and even with speedos being as out as they are guaranteed at least 130+ ! definetly not slow at all and an under rated car

Another snip from an old thread. So some people like them lol.
6CD Autochanger
Climate control
Auto Wipers
Auto Headlamps
Leather, Alacantra bucket style sports seats (can be lowered, tilted, raised, backwards forwards ect)
17" alloys
& more
The chassis isn't as bad as made out either theres lots of after market goodies from France available too & lots of people track their Gti's and rally them. They are no slower than a 182, it's down to driving ability but just not as good out of the box handling wise.

I dont know how much longer i can take being rattled to fuck in my saxo and the doors feel like theyre gonna fall off.

Ill have a gander at those mate, thanks.
TBH.. Im not very well informed about the pros n cons of certain cars. I know what I know and I genuinly like the look of the PUG. Thats why i come on here.. Hopefully to get some opinions on them or maybe look at something else.
I know a few lads on here have owned the 180. Black with white wheels. Looks nice.
Oh and, im gonna sit on the edge here and say. Every frenchie ive owned has been reliable as fuck. So i'm kinda happy to stick with one. Unfortunately i don't like the look of the 182, thats why i turned to the pug.
I do love the Type R's too but as i said, the pug has that more exclusive feel around here. Genuinly never seen one.
But nice one.:A:

Yeah i have considered an ST. My misses has a zetec 1.4 and it pulls reasonable but mainly its much nicer than the saxo to be in.
Although the ST's are even better inside, 150 out of a 2.0 litre seems a bit low.
Even if i started of with 165bhp out of the 180, i could engine modd upwards.
The interior looks nice aswell though.

Yeah your probably right mate. Ill more than likely test drive before I buy anything.
I think tbh, its gonna be out of the Honda or the 180. Unless I bang my head and suddenly want a clio.

150 BHP is a bit low in the ST and it misses a 6th gear BUT it's still a very nice car with everything considered :).
ST185 kit isn't a fortune, and certainly livens them up a lot... Then there's always supercharging in the long run!

They're very different to the saxo/106. Handle well for a larger car. No, they don't make their claimed 180 power, it's marketing. Bit like the clio 172 etc.
Good cars, if a little hairdresser for me...

A standard ST isnt in the league of a CTR, 182 or gti 180 as standard. As said the kits do liven then up, my mates got the MR 200 one, but its a lot of money. CTR would be the best place to start if going for mods, the F4R in the renault doesnt really lend its self to big power gains unless you are spending a fortune

CTR tuning is also very expensive. Your looking at around £1000 for a Kpro / K100 map alone, which will take it to around 240bhp (Although in my personal preference it ruins what the car is about). I have a custom map on mine, with a Apexi CAI, custom heatshielding, SFS induction piping and an infinity catback and is mapped at 222bhp (aorund £1000 worth of mods if not more with the other stuff)
Anything over 250 bhp you really need a supercharger or tubro kit, which your looking at around £3k-£4k
OEM RE040 tyres are also expensive at over £125 a corner.

I'd mention that renault parts are slightly more expensive, I have seen a few silly quotes. Plus most clios I've seen in my area are being ragged to fuck by 20 year olds nevermind the hondas. That second 206 does look nice.

The civic type r is the best car for modifying that has been mentioned in this thread- up to 250bhp while still keeping N/A.
In fact it's the best hot hatch mentioned on this thread, period.
But to the OP if you want a 206 get one and enjoy it. Jamie on here has had 2 of them, he loves them so worth chatting to him.

Been in a 206 GTi 180, numerous EP3's, and a 182 Clio and i can honestly say that on the road, there is pretty much nothing in it speed wise when giving them some welly.
My mate had 1 about 6 years back, was modded when he bought it but he wasn't sure what was done to it. Think it was just exhaust and breathing mods and possible ECU tweak. Can still mind of being down the local prom, doing some traffic light grand prix as you do back in the day. Had a good few blasts with an EP3 and the 206 always had the edge over it.
Ive seen them go for less than £2k. Most of them are still standard and owned by older folk, very rarely see them driven by the younger generation, which could be a good thing.
For the money you can pick them up for these days, and for what you get, you really can't argue they are a fantastic bargain, alot of car for the money. Can't say ive heard much horror stories about them either.
With 152lb/ft of torque, which is more than both the EP3 and 182, its not going to be a slow car compared to the others.

Yeah, as above, thats basically what I made the thread for. Just to get your opinions.....my views are.
1. They are rare as pelican shit by my area.
2. I've always loved how they look.
3. Value for money IIRC they have all the gadgets you need.
4. it will be the last time any local area Chav in his 1.uno corsa even dreams about it.
5. The general consensus is they are fairly quick.

Ive heard the standard GTI is not great but the 180 is much improved.
Ive heard people specifically claiming those buckets are great and comfy.
For the price im seriously considering one.
I'd like to find a later one with about 40 k miles though. Around that. I don't really want one at 70 or 80 odd K.
