stripping the saxo at the moment and have the carpet up to remove the tar ect, just thinking while im there should i remove the air bag ecu?

but the thing is i have the drivers air bag (at the moment) and standard seats, would it be a bad idea to drive without pre tensioner's on the seat belts ?

cheers

With regards to MOT you need it to turn on and then off. The light will not turn in Without the ecu.

So the saxo isn't doing particularly great on crash test but you want to remove all the safety left in there? Well it's your life dude.

You're stripping it, but adding ice weight on the other hand. I don't get the logic behind that tbh. All that said, it's an MOT fail as of April 2012, just make sure to tell your passenger the seatbelt is useless so they have a say about whether they choose to risk their life for you or not.

thats kinda why i made the thread , to see what peoples opinions are... so no need to come across with the attitude, and some how i think the saxo's safer than my bike even with no tensioners or air bags, and the only one that goes in my car is the GF and she frequents the back of my bike so i dont see hear having a problem to be honest ..... that said im not going to take it out

and a small amp dosnt weigh alot at all and iv stripped far more weight than what will be going back in, so im still losing weight.

buckets and cage will be going in at some point

don't skimp on security to be honest. And the attitude, excuse me but when I have passengers I have a duty of responsibility towards them. That includes your vehicle being fit for the roads and compliant with basic security requirements. A seatbelt with no pretensioner could kill you or your passenger, while you drive with no valid MOT or insurance. Keep that in mind, and you can make your choice.

because you have a metal shell around you does not mean you're safer than in a bike. On a bike you don't have seatbelts with missing pretensioners that could cause serious neck, ribcage or stomach injuries. You might as well remove the seatbelts altogether because the pretensioner is there to minimize all those risks of injury, but also work together with the airbag to save your life.

Anyway, at the nd of the day, it's an MOT fail.

+1 to add as well I don`t think the insurance company would be too happy either.:drink:

just because the pretensioners wont work doesnt make the seat belts leathal.. seatbelts never had pretensions back in the day... they are a mondern safty device... they only designed to minimise risk of injury off the seat belt.. but if u have a accidient the seat belt with or without pretensiors is going to hert u.. ull have bruises and sore bits...

ino i have been in plenty of accidents where both the seatbelt has saved my life and where the seat belt caused me more harm than anything else...

they are a good idea.. and if your saftey concerned then i wouldnt remove them... but from personal experience aslong as theres a belt over me im happy it will stop me goin out window or bouching off seat/dash ect..

but up to u...
