Anybody watching this?
This episode follows a regiment which a few friends are in from my village.
Jack unfortunately is involved in an accident, not sure if it's covered in this episode or not!
Worth a watch!

I seen a few of the original series and it is incredible to see the hardship and bravery of out troops. They do the hardest job on the planet yet get next to no recognition.

Its actually one of the easiest jobs: just do what you are told and thats that.
Besides i spent most of my time playing xbox and only had to endure about 2 years of hardship in 5 years and had loads of leave etc etc etc
Its not so bad.

I wouldn't associate losing both your legs or waist down with an easy job...
Depends on what you do, a lad i know has it pretty easy but he's not on the front line like some of the others who have had it very hard!

Do something long enough and it becomes easy.
Ive had some very near misses and lost plenty of colleagues.
Im one of the lucky ones. Of the few people i know that were in roughly same time of me. Out of 3 afghan tours not many have come out without a least a minor wound

so in actual fact is isnt one of the easiest jobs. Its not an easy job. You just had it easy playing the xbox all the time, others dont have it as easy and im sure they would be fucked off if they know you said their job was easy. Just because you did doesn't mean other did.

They won't be fucked off as they would agree. I did the 'hardest' job of pure infantry soldiering. The fact we had a lot of downtime didnt make us anything special and most units had the same amount of free time.
But trust me doing a 25km patrol through the middle of the night in 30 degree heat then carrying on all through the day in 50 degree heat whilst carrying 90pounds of equipment whilst walking through dirty irrigation ditches much of the day whilst getting shot at gets easier the more you do it lol!
Plus its their job. Plenty of people (not so much in this country but still) have much harder jobs.
To me a 12 hours shift at somewhere like McDonalds would be waaay harder than going on patrol in Afghan. Its all relative

Fighting in one of the poorest countries in the world with air support, tanks and the latest weapons, aginst a afghan farmer with a AK-47, yes they have it easy imo.

When you say watching it last time it was on, do you mean the particular episode as in its new or watching it last time as if its repeated?

Bit of a retarded comment. Not all soldiers are playing the x box. And as for having it easy, when you lose close friends in battle, i wouldn't say that is easy nor is some of the shit they go through, would you say a office job sat on your arse all day is harder then lol?

Exactly. I know quite a few people that have been to afghan and they have nightmares and flashbacks of seeing a bridge blowing up with his mate on etc. I wouldn't say losing your best mate etc seeing them blowing up dieing in your arms etc easy.
If only the government knew that for the past 8 years or whatever the Army have actually been playing on the xbox.

I've seen LOADS of shit and i MEAN loads!
Im exactly 100% fine and unaffected by it all.
I cba to explain everything as i'll be here forever. I think after 5 years i know a bit more than a civvy lol
Speak to anyone in the army and ask what they do in England in barracks and you'll get that exact answer. Obviously i don't mean i sat and played xbox all day as that would be ridiculous but a good few hours? Well yes lol

Being back at the barracks in the uk and being on tour in afghan are two completeley different things. Soldiers dont go to afghan just to play xbox. You sure you have actually been to Afghan or was you just playing COD on xbox?

you was... but hardcorewhatshisname wasn't
he mentioned how easy it was on tour also...well it came across that way...
My mates love it at barracks etc but I was focussing mainly on tour when some of their closest mates came home injured or dead...
it definately didn't come across as an 'easy' job for them, some have lost girlfriends/friends etc because of their jobs fucking them up mentally from what they have experienced and can't re-adjust to civilian life..

also the hardest thing about afghan is the livin conditions!
its not all out fightin all day everyday like the telly perceives!
especially at night.. fook all happens
i was in iraq in summer 2007 and it was by far 100 x worse! constant fightin all day/night everytime u left the wire... and to top it off mortar and rocket attacks about 15 times a day
use to av bad flashbacks when i got back from iraq of mortared but not had any for a few yrs touch wood!

VTR-Chris
28th August 2012, 21:54
you will deffo have more than one contact in 6/7 months lol
cant really say how many really.. depends on time of year and where u are really
can go quiet for ages then just suddenly kick off
mostly ied's anyway nowadays..

that's what I mean, I could handle a bit of action I'm quite sure with the necessary training etc.
But my mate was saying sometimes they where on patrol and he would be sat in the back of a patrol vehicle with a few other lads cramped up for hours and hours on end...
I couldn't hack that, no matter what training i had...
I picked up a mate on return from Afghan...
Words can not describe what he smelt like, you guys would be used to it I guess, but he left a stink in my car for a good few days!!
