View Full Version : Yet another new car thread - Corsa vxr nurburgring ? or any other ideas

SAXO8VYO
27th August 2012, 20:36
As thread title says looking to get new car end of september , going to be keeping the saxo for going to work and back 80 miles a day.

The new car i was looking at was a corsa vxr ideally 2009/10 and then i seen the nurburgring edition but doubt its worth the extra 4/5k over a normal artic vxr.

did also look at a few bmw 123d's purley because its 200bhp diesel and look nice.

£12,000 max , im 20 with 1 years ncb , would pay up to £250 a month on insurance providing its something nice!

i do NOT want a vts , gti , clio 172/182/197/200 , type r , fiesta st's.

want something i can get mapped and get good gains so turbo is ideally the way i want to go.

discuss.........

Id rather a Astra VXR over a Corsa VXR..

Have you looked on the prices of the astras? going for silly cheap prices nowadays..

iw_laurence
27th August 2012, 20:43
Why would you spend £12k on a corsa!! Fuck that buy an Evo/skyline/m3 or buy something for 5k and save the rest.

Stupid amount of money to be spending on a car at 20 years old!

Corsa VXRs fall apart apparently.

Chap I work with had one and after 16 or 26k it was on it's arse.

I had the Astra Vxr has a shut load of torque steer. Wouldn't mind one though. But with that kind of money you could get a pretty tasty car.

Similar situation as me, about 12k-ish to buy a newish hot hatch. I've gone for a revvy manic N/A powerplant over a powerful turbo, feel and involvement over straight line grunt for me now.

The Corsa VXR is a nice little car though, if you like them go out for a test drive.

hard_corejoeboy

Get a standard VXR over the Nurburgring edition. You could make a second hand one much much better for a lot lot less.

I agree with iw_laurence, yeh it may seem all nice, new and shiney now but in a year or so you are left with a Corsa. A Corsa.

Just a Corsa.

After £12k I would like something better than a Corsa.

At 20 years old hes pretty limited..

Peronsally Id go for a MK5 R32.. or MK5 GTI. Map both and get good gains.

Even better, get the Mk5 Golf GTi Edition 30. It comes with a larger K04 Turbo over the normal GTi and maps wayyyyy higher than both of the above, around 300bhp.

The R32 sounds amazing but is in the £460 per year tax bracket.

Two hundred and fifty pounds per month insurance, are you mad?!

Meg 225/230/R26.r

The corsas understeer like fat pigs and are hideously unreliable, mate had 4th piston melt, turbo go bang, 2nd gear synchro go, seats fell apart and 2 sets of rear wheel bearings, In 10k.

i love corsa vxr's

the only corsa i actually like as all the others bore me rigid!

not a fan of astra, they bore the hell out of me.

With a budget like that id be looking at e92 bmw m sports personally, or ive taken quite a liking to punto abarths these days...

older corsa vxr's can be had for like £6k cant they? why do you have to spend twice the amount for something with just a newer number plate?

JAGVTS
28th August 2012, 07:02
I test drove a white nurburgring corsa back in march before i bought the astra . Its an expensive car. Also power wasnt anything special. All i can say is Astra vxr over the corsa allllll day long. Can get an astra for 6k these days. Running costs are pretty awesome considering its a 2l turbo, i can get 37mpg on a long motorway run and i average 31.3 mpg doing mixed driving. Now thats not far off the vts . Corsa's are not that much bigger than a saxo so i would say look at an astra:) only because i have one hehe.

Im sure the major car journo's preferred the Corsa over the Astra VXR.

All good cars and its nice having turbo's and going fast and blah blah blah. But at the sort of age a lot of people on here are they are buying a fast car to beat the other local chavs and their mates and for what? To pay thousand or more on insurance a year?? Large tax bills not to mention fuel? Either a lot of rich young kids about or they have no lives.

My preference would be the Megane money no object.

Alot of new cars are boring IMO. I've heard things going pop on that Corsa and leaving people majorly out of pocket - I'd steer well clear of them anyway because it's a Corsa, but that takes the mick if you ask me.

Have you thought about a Mk4 Golf R32? Same engine, same glorious V6 burble but 'only' £270 vs. £470 for the Mk5 per year on tax. There's still a few tidy examples out there, and it can't hurt to put a Milltek on there to enjoy that noise even more ;) I'd just whack the rest in the bank personally...

Failing that, maybe a SEAT Leon Cupra R? Cheaper on tax, VAG so should be pretty reliable (gearboxes and door seals can be a downfall of them IIRC) but are highly tuneable - I've seen 320bhp from them on standard internals. Pretty good sleepers if you chip them as well :fcuk:

Are these megane's always this cheap..:s

That price worries me - I'd be interested to see if it's been a write off at some point in it's life. That said, I think it's one of the first hot Meganes that Renault did though, and I seem to remember them not being as highly rated as later versions...

seat ibiza cupra :) fantastic car, though I’m probably bias

i'd get the 1.8t (6L shape, 2004-2008) over the newer 1.4tsi engine
180bhp standard
stage 1 map will see 208bhp
spend a bit more at milltek and forge, then stage 2 it and you'll see 240bhp easy
and if you really want to go all out, hybrid turbo, bigger everything and stage 3 will see you at 300bhp
you can do it all for less than 12k, or just stick at stage 1 (which will be plenty) and do it all for half your budget, and you get to go to all the cool vag shows :y:

another option could be an 8p2 Audi S3, about 12ks worth of beauty

i paid 11k for my 08 ST-2 with 31k on the clock

well worth the dollar... compared to my civic type R its so much smoother and easier to drive

going from a 306bhp supercharged type r to a 225bhp ST was a bit of a downsize

but its on stage 2 now with 280bhp and 370lbft of torque (compared to the sc civics 200) makes it so much easier to drive

fuel consumption is about the same.. can see 37mpg on motorway

I can imagine the st being really quick but ive never been in one with handling to match. It seems turbo boys always focus on the lazy way of going faster. Ie more boost instead of brakes and suspension first.

Neighbour is gonna be getting rid of his 30k 2007 st for stupid stupid money soon. Tempting to getbit butbits sat on the road motionless for about a year now.

Mugen FN2 Type R OMG.

Tell me about it, looks like a futuristic racing space ship. Plus with the crazy noise to match.. I want.

If I was getting a stock version I'd certainly aim to make it just like the Mugen. Not that I'm getting a standard FN2R in GT-Spec of course... *cough cough*

Over budget but worth it when you're thinking of sinking 12k.

i paid 11k for my 08 ST-2 with 31k on the clock

well worth the dollar... compared to my civic type R its so much smoother and easier to drive

going from a 306bhp supercharged type r to a 225bhp ST was a bit of a downsize

but its on stage 2 now with 280bhp and 370lbft of torque (compared to the sc civics 200) makes it so much easier to drive

fuel consumption is about the same.. can see 37mpg on motorway

you didn't trade your car into a place in nottingham by any chance?

My mate has just bought a Blue one, new one.

Says his mapped Ibiza FR TDi was quicker, and a better car.

He wont have the clio for long, he kind of regrets getting it.

Bloody french!

My slave cylinder gave up yesterday at bedford! Gutter!

Still took a clio 200 and megane 250 before that though.

I hear you on the clios power though on the main straight we were hitting 110 and the clios phase 2 and 3s were only pulling a few lengths on me. I'd wager my brakes are better to that or i have bigger balls :)

So your twingo beats a 250 round Bedford? Did the megane driver have his helmet on back to front?

Why is that so hard to believe? The instructors in the new twingo were shaking off r26r's so me overtaking a 250 isnt exactly a big deal. Probably had a bird driving it or someone driving the demo vehicle

Course i forget in this forum its all about what car you have and the faster car will always beat the slower one as long as that car isnt a saxo in which case its normal to overtake a veyron...

Shame i only got 8 fast laps in and didnt set up the camera and racechrono.
