some advice please

just after some advice.
iam new here but dont have a saxo yet nor have i had one.did have a pug 106gti a year or so ago.
anyways im after buying a vtr and was wondering what year do i wana go for.i understand there is 3 engines for the vtr yeah?one of them have 98bhp will this be the better one to go for if i plan to do some simple mods or do the older engines respond better to mods???? ie manifold,decat,cams and maybe head work etc etc
before anybody starts with just buy a vts i dont want a vts i want a vtr ok lol.
also is there alot of things i can do for the handling side of it?wud rather a car that handles very well than a car that has loads of power but cant handle a corner
any advice welcome (apart from the just buy a vts lol)

Most VTR's run the 98bhp engine, apart from the Blacktop, which is in the VERY early MK1's..

The only difference in the 98bhp engines, is that one has a single plug ECU, the other has 3 plug.. The engine is the same though.. As for mods, all going to respond the same really, the only thing which will make them better, is the quality of the map you have after the mods if you get cams and whatnot..

Obviously in most cases, the less miles on the engine, the stronger it will be, although id keep a look out for something that's got a decent service history..

As for handling.. Easiest and cheapest way, is to put some decent suspension, invest in some decent tyres and wheels, and then buy some 306 GTI6 calipers, disks and pads, as they are a straight fit.. 266mm, so they will be alot better at slowing you down..

Not alot else needed to know, check for rust, but it shouldnt be much of an issue

cheers mate and thats good to know about the brakes from the GTI6's.
is worth getting polybushes,aftermarket anti roll bars etc etc for the handling?

they will make a difference, mine didn't have ARBs or polybushes etc, was just lowered 40mm on front and ~50mm on the back. never managed to get lift off oversteer, just felt planted and stuck like shit.

i was using uniroyal rainsport 2's, budget tyres but some of the best i've had, especially in the wet.
