Long story short, Samsung were ordered to pay Apple $1 billion due to patent infringement.
Anyway, Earlier today Samsung sent THIRTY trucks full of 5 cent coins to Apple in payment of the fine LOL!

Although I'll give you the "more than their face value" comment - nickels (5 cents) are worth more than twice their face value in metal - far better to melt them down than actually use them :D

In South Korea the infringlements were more or less 50/50 yet through the US courts the Americans find in favour of Apple and throw out Samsungs claims - little bit of corruption..

There are laws there, any coin is legal tender but you cannot legally shift more than $30-ish in pennies. Has to do with cash register capacities and the impossibility to close them, as in security flaw.
Try 1 billion, good luck storing that let alone setting up all the logistics involved in shifting it.
