Last night, i filled up with 32.94 litres, literally seconds after the low fuel light came on.
When I filled up it was 134.9p for Petrol. Paid £44.44 for those who can't add.
so in theory around 37 litres in the tank
I set out with the intention of seeing how far I could go.

Motorway miles I must say in a 1.1
I did a steady 60 mph - 65 mph pretty much the whole 223miles, sitting just a little over 3000rpm, under 3500.
My journey was from nottingham, a453, a50, a500, m6, bit of country roads in cheshire, a49 to warrington, coffee in warrington, back along the a49, dropped a mate over. ;) along the m56, m53, then a51 back through to the, a500 and back to nottingham.
Now upon getting home, just ticked 223 miles, my fuel guage still said I had half a tank left. Literally the needle slightly under half, so i'd say 22 litres.

now my basic math skills, I managed to get 96mpg, using just 15litres of fuel?
I don't know i worked it out in bed, but is this possible, or have a messed up on my math somewhere?

i've done another quick sum a new figure of 66.9... I don't know. What is the best fuel economy people manage from their saxos on here. Discuss, i'll read when i'm back from work.

the half way mark on the gauge isn't "half fuel left". Sorry to burst your bubble ;)

67.58 mpg - 9.07 pence per mile - 12k miles would cost £1,088.40

However im sure the top half of the saxo tank is bigger due to it's design. So would be more accurate if you calculated it once the red light has come on again. Then you know you've used exactly 32.94 litres.

Beat me to it lol, soon as it hits just under "half way" you'll soon notice that after 70 miles you've got none left lol

calc used - http://www.torquecars.com/tools/uk-mpg-calculator.php pretty handy.

Ye, I just did a bit of maths on a spreadsheet.

Edit: Sorry, I got them the wrong way round.

When you topped up, you got 8.2 gallons of fuel yet you used 3.4 gallons on your journey, leaving you with 4.8 gallons.

So you used 3.4 gallons of fuel over 223 miles, means you averaged about 67MPG.

Yeah you messed up. You did about 30mpg, which is quite shitty on a 1.1 tbh.

checked distributor cap? What about air conditioning fan? Could be coolant level also.

Adsayer is the god of best MPG, sure he was getting like 80mpg from his 1.5d

Sounds like maintenance not done to me and not much actual economy driving going on. Last time I really went through a 100% full economy drive in a 1.1, I did 600 miles to a tank just above the light. Had a 45 litre tank, so did above 63mpg. All motorway, no hills and very little town, no short trips or frequent turning the engine on and off.

Well if my calculations are correct, you got 14 miles on a litre of fuel, that is based on 223 miles/15 litres used.

So if you calculate miles covered/litres used, then miles per litre * litres in the tank = 518 miles. 518 miles / 8.2 gallons of fuel gives you your average MPG across the tank. Hope this helps

223/15 = 14mpl
14*37 = 518
518/8.2 = 63MPG :y:

Running my vtr to a completly empty tank and currently at 450 with the guage just about lifting. Anyone else done this? What did you get? Mostly town or a road driving

I put £21 in my Clio which gave me 15 litres @ £136.9. I then covered 154 miles until I cut out due to lack of petrol! Which means I was getting 45MPG, that isn't bad =)

But how much did you have in the tank before you added the 15 litres ;) meaning you got less than 45

I managed 450 miles to a tank in my last VTR doing two runs from Barnsley to Newcastle in two days when I had work on there. Use to get 410 miles on average, carnt seem to get my current VTR to do more then 370 miles until the light comes on, but thats doing a lot more stop start driving.

My mpg from my drive to land's end + back - so mixture of motorway and rural 60's..

872 miles - used 93 litres of fuel - total cost £140 (service prices £1.49) - avg MPG = 42.47

Just over 2 tanks - so about 430 miles per tank or 215 miles per half of tank

1.1 box on 16v so screaming all the way.

I usualy make 370 before the light comes on so I thought I'd see how much further I can go so now just waiting to run out before topping up again. According to the mpg calculator I'm averaging around 59 mpg which I find quite mad considering its not a diesel

haha I didn't have anything, I was cutting out on the way to the petrol station.

My tripmeter is currently reading 44.4MPG, not too far out lol

My saxo normally gets about 320-340 from full to light on. It does however do a lot of short trips and town driving in traffic. When it does do motorway stuff it's revving hard due to having a 1.1 box on it.

My old 1.5 diesel used to do 400+ without breaking a sweat.

I got 120 miles out of £20 in my gti. 37mpg I don't think that is too bad

Id be annoyed if I didn't get over 700 miles from a tank in the Clio.

I used to get over 40mpg in my old VTS when it was modded.

180 is on 30.7 mpg, mixture of driving atm.

You should do empty to empty again and calculate it that way.

Best ive done out of my VTS is 40mpg.

Some weeks its been pretty poor but what the hell :homme: get to a point where you get sick of winging about mpg and fuel prices and just get on with it

I used to get 190 miles to a full tank in the mx5. Now I get roughly 320 in the Golf.

I want diesel in my life again.

I get about 60-65 miles from £10 petrol (7.4liters) in a 1.1 and all town and rush hour driving....don't know if that's good or bad? I don't know how you work out mpg lol

You can get more I think IIRC highest I had was 46mpg, did a mixture of driving through towns and mostly motorway for that though :)

I have to drive like a fanny in my Pug or it will milk me like a cow just for money instead of milk lolol.

67mpg. Derv can fuck right off then.
Im going to brim it on friday, so however many litres it is until it clicks, i'll get a rough guide from it then.
My word, it's incredibly boring driving at 60mph.
I felt semi godly creeping past artics, holding up huge chunks of road behind me.
If petrol carries on creeping up like it is, i might just have to drive at 60!!!

My VTR sits at 80Mph all day and somehow the fuel just never goes :/. It's got a VTS G'box too.
