Need a bigger family car. Looking at one of these-2002,78k,FSH, mot no advisories seems cheap enough.
Thought i'd run this by you lot before I commit myself.
Anyone know much about these who can advise on what to look for -might be seeing one later.
Cheers

Dad had a 05 plate 1.6 hdi derv (colourcoded etc) and it was spot on. Never had any issues with it in the 3yrs he owned it.

Looking around the net seems like while they might be a bit flimsy they're ok mechanically.
02 plates petrol -are these cambelt or chain anyone know?

One of neighbours has a diesel example and in 10 years of ownership (since new) it hasn't let him down. The brakes are a tad squealy, but apart from that, it's mechanically sound. He did mention to me that the cambelt needed doing, so I'm guessing it is a belt and not a chain. I did a quick search on Eurocarparts just to check and all the kits they sell are belts so I'm guessing there's no costly chain involved. Don;t quote me on it though!

My dad had an 03 Exclusive from new, the one with the mahoosive full size sunroof... Was nice car, all colour coded, electronic dash n stuff. However after 3 years the electrics went a bit funny, the funky computer controls the dash board info stopped working, Citroen wanted £500 to fix it.

front springs snap, drivers window regulator is a common fail, sills are starting to rot on picassos round about 02 plate now, hdi is pretty hardy but be aware of dual mass flywheel failing, high and low pressure fuel pumps playing around and check when cam belt was done. Petrol models suffer usual PSA engine problems of head gasket, emissions etc

Check the temperature scale works on the dash, these are common to fail and its not just a cheap thermostat.
In-tank fuel pump is another common problem.
Check out the power steering also.
Worst car I've owned.

Mum's trying to sell hers at the moment to downgrade. It's a great car tbh, can't even get £700 for it down this way though. Mileage is pretty reasonable at 67k too.

Loads of car for the money. We've just picked one up.
We never looked into the petrol models, they're reported to be very slugish.
They are all cambelt driven and the 2.0HDI's are advised at 100k and the 1.6HDI's are advised at 150k.
The 2.0HDI is single mass flywheel. The 1.6HDI's are DMF.
Facelift happened in 2004.
There are 2 1.6HDI engines, a 92bhp one and a 110bhp one, the 92bhp one doesn't have FAP System, and the later 1.6HDI ones do have FAP System which can be an expensive system to top up/maintain every few years. The engine to have is the 1.6HDI 110 without the FAP System, they're hard to find though. As said though, make sure there are no signs of DMF failure before you buy. Don't let the fact that it has one put you off though, the majority of newer cars have DMF, one day i'm sure you'll end up owning a car with a DMF anyway!
The 1.6HDI 110bhp engine is the PSA engine currently used in the new Ford 1.6 Derv's and all of the new Citroen and Peugeot 1.6 derv's.
We have the 1.6HDI 110bhp engine getting 65mpg average and well above that on straight motorway journeys.

My mum has the 2.0HDI and it's awesome, really spacious and loads of storage areas. Never had any problems in 5 years, passes MOT every time

I would never get another pug after the 307 i had, my mate also had one, endless problems, stupidly unreliable. Heard too many bad things about them to use the 'depends on its history'.
