I know this is the total wrong forum. But i've been offered a v reg a3 for £250 with a snapped cambelt.
Kind of wondering weather to buy it and fix it, or just buy it and break it.
Need some advice!:panic:

Itll need a new head, cambelt and probably 20 valves so wont be a cheap fix?

How much??

If you get a new head then you wont need another 20 valves

been offered it for £250. Thinking about just getting a 1.8 turbo engine for it

Either 20 valves or a new head*

If you can make money on it buy it, source a low mileage head with valves and everything and then get a headgasket kit and cambelt and you'll be sorted. But before doing that i would reccommend checking the pistons before you buy parts, then you can break it if need be.

If you decide to strip it let me know cos i need a few parts (Y)

If its a 20v a right mare! And it might not be the cambelt... The second cam is chain driven of the 1st... Can remember what is driven by the cambelt...

I'd buy it and just break it for parts, fuck repairing it to be honest. You could make what an easy £500 from it I'd guess

What year? spec?

Might be interested in a few bits for mine if its the right year...

Either way its near enough a engine out job as the belt goes around the engine mount. If the chains slipped its a head off job and you can get a tool to tighten it up

Cambelt took me 5-6 hours to replace... If the chains jumped... Smashed valves... Unless its a real nice one (which i doubt for 250) its hardly worth going back on the road...

its a 1.8 20v non turbo. quite liking the idea of fixing and keeping it. But not sure if it will be too much hasle

scrap/break it, nearly the worst engine they fitted, worst was the 1.6 8 valver!

Mate of mine bought a running 1.8t with tax and test for £350 lol. Bloke bought it into his work saying he wants rid ASAP and accepted £350. My mate have it a good service and I think it needed a few bushes or something and it's been fine since lol. Bargain tbf.

I personally wouldn't bother with the one with the snapped belt though. More hassle than its worth to me.

hmm not sure. just seems a shame to not buy it as it's only £250.
Just weighing up my options
