Bit late in the season but just wondering if anyone on here is into Jetskis?

I've just got back into it after a short 20 year break.

Here's my two:
1998 Seadoo XP 138bhp

1998 Kawasaki SXi Pro
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll38/LVC1/JetSki/IMG_4168-1.jpg

Already planning on selling the Kawa next year and buying a Seadoo GTi 155 2011 as I want a 3 seater for the sea and for towing.

You gotta have a go - the sit down ones are real easy and such a blast - much safer than motorbikes and nearly the same adrenalin rush :panic:

I'd have a go if I ever got the chance never really been anywhere with jet skis tbh

Most of the usual coastal holiday places have them for hire and with a "monitor" on site you don't need a license to play ;)

I had a go on a yam wave runner with the R1 engine out in whitby was fucking freezing in october. Engine cut off was dodgey so kept cutting out. Was stuck 3/4 a mile out and the lifeboat towed me in. Never again!!!!!!!!!!!

Bet that was mental with that engine in it :panic:

The main reason for my 20 year break was coming back to the UK after being in the middle east - way too cold for me to enjoy water-sports in Blighty. I needed to wait till I was settled over here in France before jumping back onto boats again. Lake was a steady 23/24 degrees water temp most of this summer - loverly :y:

We get the north sea or a select few lakes in the lake district. The wave runner was rapid but you can only go so fast before your balls run out and you spray the contents of your arse over the seat.

Would love to experience it.

Already ride bikes like, be sick to venture off in the sea though..

Live slap bang in the middle of the country, so unfortunately it's pointless owning one...

I do love going on them when abroad though, my dad used to own one which some weekends we would go to the seaside but it was too cold to enjoy it as much as abroad!!

Soo much fun, I was really young when I first went on and smashed my head into the handlebars when I went flat out over an oncoming wave.... smashed my bollocks as well!

Your Jetskiis look amazing! :A:

Never been on one :(

You're missing out, you need to have ago on one!!

The best 2 days I've had of my life, one was out on a Jetskii and the other was out on a Rib with my sister and Bro-in-Law! It was AMAZING.

yeah its great until you go so far when you look back you cant see land!!!

It's so scary! Has anyone seen that Only Fools and Horses episode where they put Delboy on a jetski and mess with the jetski so it doesn't stop!! and ends up right out at sea until the jetski runs out of petrol hahaha

The UK is very restrictive on where you can use Jet on inland lakes - I used to water-ski on Lake Windermere just before they bought in the stupid speed limit.

For the jet out at sea the rule is no more than 2 nautical miles from land in France but if we're off "exploring" we have GPS units fixed to the handlebars so you always know where you are, as you say no "road signs" at sea and easy to get lost otherwise.

Been a biker most of my life and with all the issues of accidents etc. jets are way less dangerous but easily as much fun. My XP turns really tight and you pull higher G's than on a bike and if you push it too far it'll let go and off you fly with a big grin on your face.

Me in action this summer (before I changed the colour scheme)...

great fun, my dad had a variety of them when i was 16 (four years ago) loved going out on them and meeting new people but i hated the racing ones as they had no flotation so they would just lay on there side! so was a pain to get it going lol!

want one again though!!!

Hahaha 215bhp in something that skims across the water... that must be insane!

You have any idea what a typical jet ski power is for tourists to use? Not the shitty ones, the expensive ones that make you grin?

Just as a comparison

Not sure about the rest of the world but in France the rental skis are virtually all 3 places and have to be limited to a max of 100bhp. The Shitty ones have less.

They now do a 260bhp supercharged Seadoo which is a blast. The only problem with the big ones is their weight, my XP is a 1 1/2 place (2 occasionally as long as the passenger is ready to get thrown off), 951cc 2 stroke, so really light and will see off most 215 between the buoys - straight line there's about 5km/h in it at top speed (around 100km/h). The bad news is that the XP has a 54 litres tank, takes SP98 (so about 75€ a fill up) and at full throttle lasts ...... 1 hour :wall: On the lake with non constant use and not full throttle all the time it'll last a session (about 5 hours). Hence one of the reasons that I want a 155 (non-superchaged and much lower consummation) 3 places next year to run as well as the XP.

Pretty impressive that is, and I think I'd be in the same mindset!! Acceleration is all well and good but the lump in them can make them a bit barge like in comparison as you said to the more agile options :y:

I'm pretty sure 155 will make you smile every session you do!! :y:

In spain we went on some Jet ski trip in & out of the coves along the coast, then the "instructors" told us to aim back for the harbour and they will meet us there. I was clocking about 75kph which when I was on my own felt fucking quick!!

Wish I has got one when I lived at home, but the sea was a bit chilly.... :S

Cove hoping is great fun especially if there's a number of jets.

The 155 is the same engine as the 185 and 215 but only about 10km/h slower and 40% LESS consummation. There's also a new tax coming into France next year which taxes coastal jets with over 90bhp so the big toys, 215, 250, 260 etc. are going to have to pay a few hundred euros more. Another reason why the 155 is a good bet.

FYI The 155 Gti 2011 looks like this >>>

I'd love a go but I always think I'd get pretty bored after a day of blasting round with loadsssss of space and nothing to avoid hitting lol.

LVC
7th September 2012, 14:30
At those prices Granty312 maybe I should go into the rental market.

Don't worry Carl-h avoiding the buoys and trying to stay on it enough of a challenge on the flat lakes and if that's not enough try wave jumping on the sea.

What was the model he was bidding on?
There's a lot of choice here in France and next year the prices are going to take a real hammering ... some bargains to be had methinks ;)

I'll ask him when I speak to him later, but I know it was in Florida and he was going to get it delivered to Spain! It looked cool anyway, I know that haha

Jumping looks fun! Like I say I'd love a go, would be nice to compare it to the bikes. I remember every time I got a new bike that was usually much quicker than the one before it and each time thinking how much more I had to hold on lol. I don't notice at all now though haha.

Being a motocross rider I was jumping waves straight up. But then I found it the same as motocross but on water haha!

LVC
7th September 2012, 15:37
For more of a similarity to MX you need to go on "Stand-up" style jetskis like my Kawa - kills the thigh muscles and finding the balance is another story. I ride Trials bikes so wanted to try the stand-up jets. Great fun as long as you like swimming cos for the first season all you do is fall off and swim after the damn thing, lol

Florida to Spain - sounds interesting I'll have to have a look at prices in the US for my next toy - SeaDoo are moving their factory to Mexico I believe. Was it a new one, think I'd be a bit worried about a 2nd hand one that far away?

Showing your (our) age there mate ;)

It's a great hobby and no where near as expensive as I thought it would be - as long as you buy an older jet and are prepared to do some maintenance yourselves (bit like Saxo ownership lol).

The idea of being cold and wet put me off doing it in the UK but if you get the chance chaps (and ladies) def give it a go :zainy:
