View Full Version : New Saxp Rules?
Mochachino
8th September 2012, 17:30
Ive noticed a few new rules being posted that are not in the Saxp Rules, are these awaiting an update in the saxp rules thread as they are not there?
One that is quite annoying is we are now not allowed to post eBay links at all? So if we want advice on if a certain product is correct we are no longer able to ask for advice, or if another member knows of a link to their website as they have nothing for sale on eBay?
We have been able to post ebay links and ask for advice for years, thats what the point of the forum is right? Providing and seeking advice? but we can no longer do this?
Nothing in the saxp rules states anything about not using eBay links either. Only if the eBay link is used to advertise a sale.
Saxp rules are here, (http://www.saxperience.com/forum/announcement.php?f=11) and half of the new rules being implemented recently don't even exist and this is damaging for the forum, its reducing its capability as a tool for advice etc, new members will not want to be a part of a forum so strict either. I have heard of quite a few members already leaving too, not sure who they are but know of quite a few.
Saxp has practically lost its community spirit and now its beginning to lose its effectiveness as a source of information. Saxp is/was a great forum and it will be sad to see it reduce to nothing like many other forums have done so, and this is how it seems very recently.

I agree totally with what you're saying but at the same time I think some egos need squashing.
Stuff like you mentioned should be allowed to continue. Other things, more important things I'll be glad to see the mods clamp down on.

The problem with eBay links is that your are advertising even without meaning too technically, I guess that's where it's coming from.
However, I had an infraction the other week for insulting someone yet I have seen some people (higher post count on particular) insult others in a much worse way and I highly doubt anything has come of theirs as they are still doing it.
This forum is going down hill in my eyes, the banter when I first joined made this an awesome place to be even when you are a victim.

although with all these new rules I think we should ban manu because he hasn't posted a single positive comment in 5000+ posts.

Banter has been banned for a while now. But why ebay links inparticular?should all of the kam racing links be banned aswell as well as all other links of advice ?

I agree the links people could post have helped me in the past so should be allowed to still post them up for others.
And I think the atmosphere on here's changed since when I first joined, back then people were helpful and decent to chat with now when you post up for help or even just comment theres always some tit posting some stupid answer or trying instigate an argument.

I think banter is fine between friends. But then other people get involved and it spirals out of control.
I've changed my sig because it was "abusive" in peoples eyes and in not disputing that at all. However, when we all got together this is exactly how we were with each other. Time and a place.
People that do nothing but post negative crap should be banned in my opinion.

Agree, I hardly even post threads anymore because someone feels the need to try and make a fool out of you and they don't give up either and just ruin your threads, I made one this morning and wish I didn't because people feel the need to try and make an argument. Safe to say I wont be making anymore, hardly use the forum anyway now compared to before.

Was going to say Danny I hardly see you on Here these days, got to admit I dropped off here for abit cause of some of the banter turning racist and mods not doing anything about it and the fact I got a infraction foams threatened ban for linking another car club in my sig when after reading the rules 4 times still can't understand what rule I broke.
Personally I think it's getting better on here but it being able to eBay or third party links abit shit same for telling people about a discount code for something uncompletely car related

the really sad thing about this thread
is that it will get the same response all similar threads get like this...locked or deleted with "rules are there for a reason" or some other generic response, with no form of discussion or even basic reasoning
i know its simo's site...and he makes the rules...but the members make the forum..and should be allowed to have a say in how it should be run
(incase your wondering...i have problems with alot of keys on my keyboard...comma being one of the them )

Danny I find this comment quite interesting. After all you are quite well known for posting silly replys in threads for the lolz.
I've not been made aware of links within threads being removed tbh, the sig issue was something that needed dealing with as some people were totally taking the piss on here and just using it as a free service as advertising.
Its a hard one to police especially as some of the affiliates seem to think that someone replying to a thread where someone asks for advice was 'advertising'.
In other words trying to please both sides of the fence will always have some casualties.
The constant bullying on here by a small percentage of members on here has been addressed with bans being handed out, and other names having a close eye on their posts and attitudes on the forums.

That was like over a year ago, and I did make the effort to only post silly shit in threads that asked silly shit, or gave a serious response aswell unless it had already been answered, and I took it on the chin when I got it back in my own threads. However, since then the forum has gone much too serious and all the banter has been lost, like rorz has said ive not been on here all that much and the forum has definitely gone downhill.
Also Blackie is right, we are the members and something needs to be discussed with the members in mind.
If everyone took the approach you did Ryan then it would be much better. Sounds like im sucking up but I wouldnt do that to a ginger.
Mochachino
8th September 2012, 18:47
Also whats this affiliate problem people are talking about, someone fill me in?
Ryan
8th September 2012, 18:50
The issues with banter is members need to have the brain capacity to self regulate.
A bit of banter is fine, but on here it rarely stays at just that. Often the 'banter' has involved ganging up on new members or members who may have previously upset some of the 'gang' and its just been constant abuse aimed at that person.
As I have always said people need to know when to stop but people seem to be so obsessed with the E-Egos with online friends that they cannot do that.
Heck we have a 'hot girls thread' yet people cant even understand when to stop there posting links of hardcore porn etc...

As explained to you simo is away on business at the moment (and has been for well over a year) Sadly this had made sorting things like that much more of a pain.
There have been people wanting to be an affiliate but just because they want to be one it doesn't mean they are offering something which could benefit the community long term.

Don't you think has something to do with the constant "use the search tab" comment that nearly comes up on every new guys thread? I got bombarded when i first joined on here. Perhaps people are actually doing that. I presume over the many years the sites been going, there isn't much that hasn't been discussed in detail. So there isn't a need as such, to create a new thread every time.

I can see where some of the rules are been broken such as my sig advertising oil filter relocation kits. I know for a fact that no one in the UK can supply these as I was the sole importer from Citroen France. So how this affects the affiliates I don't understand. But rules are rules so I changed my sig.
Then this morning I had a thread locked when I was asking for a Ebay shop of a sticker manufacturer?
some things can go too far and I too fear the fact that sax-p is fast in decline.

People with 1k+ posts shouldn't always tell new members to search, just be nice and advice. If there has been a million threads on it before there's no need to bring it up, help them then close it after

New members on here find themselves in a catch 22 situation most of the time, they do one thing and they get criticised for it, then they try to do something the way that they have been advised to do and someone else criticises them for doing that then the same happens again, then they just think fuck this and never come back
You start a thread in general chat to discuss something that's happened in your day or something that you've seen on the news etc, the majority of the time it starts off as laugh and banter, but then the story gets twisted and makes you look like a complete bell end..... people don't want to start threads on here any more because they know some twat will twist the story on its head and make them look like a complete knob..... hence no-one starting threads and the forum getting quieter month by month
So basically from what I have seen, most of the old regulars on here have bullied off the next generation of sax-p'ers so we've now got no-one to replace the old regulars now they've fucked off..... a few people saw this coming and tried to warn everyone else, everyone ignored them and now facing the consequences.......

Eh? There are several members who troll, bait, and stir stuff up frequently, and you can't deny still continuing to do just that yourself on some occasions. Not just in "silly" threads either.
When you post "serious" questions, you get serious answers. Often it does get sidetracked of course, but that's the way all conversations go, not just online but real life too :)
Yes the forum is in decline. We had this chat in premium member chat recently. Saxos haven't been sold in over 10 years now and naturally will result in a reduction of users as a lot of people move on. Hondas mostly apparently ;)
The rules HAVE always been there regarding advertising, we've just not inforced them. It got to a point where there was more advertising for services on some threads than content - often in silly large letters etc. it had to stop.
Regarding eBay, you are fine to link to eBay for "opinions" or whatnot, the only thing we don't allow with eBay is links within the for sale section.

No I don't - the comment I removed (red text) was insulting. If the OP of that comment is incapable of contributing usefully to this thread, I stand by my suggestion they don't bother posting in it.
All comments ARE open to debate. However, although the mods have a thick skin, there's a line, and both the removed posts crossed far past it.
I think we're pretty much at the end of this thread anyway, and it may not last much longer as like a lot of posts with good intentions, has got dragged off-topic and made into personal attacks. I've tried to moderate it to keep it on topic, even though the easier route is just to close it.

We're taking this post off-topic (again :p) but to answer this, I would hope you believe if someone made snide personal insults to you on this forum that you feel if you reported it something would be done about it (post removed etc).

Thanks for understanding! It IS thankless. I've been a mod/admin on forums for 10+ years and it never gets easier. You're instantly a target and hated by the users ;)
I use the red text for moderation comments so (in theory!) it's easy to spot what's a sax-p stance on something, Vs my opinion. I laugh, banter and joke in lots of threads, but it's useful online to see when I'm "not smiling" and the red text comes out!
So - to bring this back on subject, are the rules "clearer" now?
We've addressed advertising in signatures, and eBay links in for sale posts. I think that covers everything raised.

Just to add to Ross's comments.
Earlier it was mentioned that members need to have the mental ability to 'self moderate' as has been shown again here, Staff have tried to have an adult discussion on the matter yet even then a percentage of morons decided to post pointless drivel which was not adding to the thread at hand other than to try and inflate their online E-Ego.
As mentioned its easy to bitch and whinge about 'moderating' when you clearly are too stupid to know when the time is to not try and be clever.
