View Full Version : Saxp is doomed...

Yep. I think it is getting to that point now where people are arguing for the sake of arguing! All I seem to see on here lately is threads getting locked due to childish remarks/arguing. I am not sure what the flying duck is going on with it, weather mods are on a power trip or if some members just don't know when to hush but I seriously think if it carries on Saxp will be no more! :panic:
I expect some remarks/childish argument will be posted in this thread and I expect it will be lock before it reaches page 2 but I just would like to say its been fun while it lasted fellow Saxp-ers!

I highly doubt Saxp will 'be no more' if it continues. It's been like it since I can remember! nothing new mate. Although what I will say is in the past couple of years 'trolling' has gone up drastically.
Adapt.

Threads would stay open if people didn't need babysitting.
It's a shame really that some people are too worried about trying to be funny for the sake of it.
Most of this was covered in the last thread though, which was closed due to members acting like children....... Go figure.
These sort of threads always come up from time to time, forum users change over time. Some come some go.

in the past couple of years 'trolling' has gone up drastically.
All the forum i use (7) have been full of trolls and arguments since i can remember starting to use them (2004/5).
Wont change, be honest I think the stricter the MODS become will cure the trolls/arguments but at the same time make it to 'yes sir' 'no sir' which is to serious.
Ignore is best, use it for what you need.

Not sure about it being doomed, i think it will continue to live on with a new lot of members. I can imagine forums work in cycles anyway.
Shame that people are leaving the forum due to being wound up though.

Its certainly not what it was 3 years ago when i joined... I wouldnt say its doomed, people are still buying saxos and people will still continute to join, its the circle of life lol..
The old Vetran members have mostly moved on from the forum, i must admit the mods are getting a lot more strict over the last few months.
Seems the moderators didnt like the last thread, as it was soon closed.

If you get trolled, ignore it! The forum will still remain no doubt.

See Ryans comments above. If forums were self regulating, there'd technically be no need for mods at all really. Threads turning to personal attacks, insults, or getting derailed to pages of pointless spam get closed oddly enough.

Technically there isn't any need for mods?
In fact most forums are better of without them. You shouldn't really delete things you think are pointless spam, I guess you've never talked to your friends about random things before have you.
Oh fuck you could take that as an insult as well, I've just called you and your friends boring. Sounds like a personal attack now.
How long till I'm banned?

I agree with you to a degree but that's obvious. I've witnessed pretty much all of the changes to this forum over the 6 or so years I've been a frequent.
I think at this moment there is too much interference on a forum that's not exactly renowned for it. It is what made this place different and one of the reasons I keep coming back.
Obviously if something requires divine intervention fair enough but sometimes it's best to just let threads run their course they more often than not burn themselves out rather than closing them unless it's ridic content.
I know from being a moderator elsewhere before It's hard to get & maintain the right balance between all the above to keep the forum revolving and also to not be seen to be over moderating.
What keeps this place going is it's member base. If this were a new forum and it was strict from the off start it would probably die out. Luckily it's established by it's success in previous years.

This isn't a personal attack or pointing the finger, but since a recently appointed MOD came on board... the place got too strict...
And I've noticed numerous comments to people that I genuinely have banter with (not bullying a newbie) be deleted...
It's getting very petty in terms of what can and cannot be said...
Some people taking their role a bit too seriously in comparison to the old school MODS that at least gave you a little bit of chain....

Personal attacks, insults, getting derailed?
Seems abit of an extreme point of view. There is some banter but personal attacks really? Is general chat not suppose to be a form of general banter, does it matter if a thread goes off topic?
Everytime I sign in here I see a thread like this, the site isnt doomed

In other words its doomed then?
Turning helpful members away for advertising the services they offer which are rather small compared to affiliate members. Sax-p has slowed down compared to years ago when any member could advertise anything to an extent which then had a bigger user base.
Other forums, larger than sax-p let users advertise to an extent not taking it away altogether. Users come on sax-p for banter, helpful advice and discount codes to my protein why take away what the user wants?
Manu

Some of you need to go and see how an unmoderated forum turns out to be. There you will find another level of boring, as you clearly have a poor interpretation of what is technically needed to run one of these discussion boards.
Other forums, larger than sax-p let users advertise to an extent not taking it away altogether. Users come on sax-p for banter, helpful advice and discount codes to my protein why take away what the user wants?
The rules are, no sales-related links outside of the for sale section. I'll remind you that you have agreed to the terms and conditions, as in no happy about what is a free service, then go spend your time elsewhere... The banter will be here if the members show up, and if you want to make them come here the place has to be clean. Quite frankly, I found it quite odd that some members were allowed to shit in their hands and throw it at everyone in sight for an extended period of time. Then some are astonished to see that most decent members are taking their (genuine)banter elsewhere.
Tell you what, people move on and resell their 11 t0 15 year old saxo to a main customer base populated by chav. Then the car breaks down, they end up here. If you want to fell a part of a higher car forum class, I suggest you buy a higher class of car.

I think if more ppl actually posted up that they arent happy with the way things are going at the min.. Rather then being too scared to post up and leaving it to others as per
The mods wouldn't brush it off and say "the same few always twist" or " you can't please everyone" and would see that lots of ppl feel this way
Even by just posting: I don't think things are going well at the min
I've spoke to a lot who feel this way... Most of them won't post up though

Freedom of speech has been revoked it seems.

If ppl simply post up that they don't think things are going well... Without resorting to attacking the mods first off
I'm sure the mods can then ask why... If it doesn't turn into a bitch fight, things might get taken on board
Doubt it... But at least it will show how many aren't happy... In all honesty though, most probs still won't post up

In which case I will contribute and say that this forum is the only forum I actively use and it's making me think twice due to events lately.
I own a Golf not a Saxo but I feel this is a more active forum, other than the banter and the freedom that was given to members when I first joined, there is no reason for me to stay here.

Genuinely went down hill when "rep" was taken from us.
I thought a forum was suppose to be a place of fun, the rep gave it that "twist"
It may of been abused- Slightly.... but instead of removing it, admin should of counteracted it and worked out the kinks.

IMO it seems to be a forum where a lot of 'young' and 'childish' people have joined. Don't get me wrong we've all been there but it does get rather annoying with the amount of jokers and idiots on here now. I only post in the technical sections and to talk to a few good mates I've met on here over the past 5 years or so.
After using other forums for my CTR, its clear they are far more grown up and people actually post knowledgeable posts/threads whilst also having a good laugh. Without mods this place would become unbearable I think!

People just need to stop taking this place so seriously and chaps would get along much better.
It's the internet - it’s not real.
Like the majority of things in life it has to be moderated. The mods are appointed to do a job it’s as simple and as easy as that.
If you don’t like it then why you still here?
If you’ve been here a long time you get sick of seeing these threads (I know I do)
Easiest thing to do is just to fook off if this place ain’t for you, this way it we get rid of the crap and leave the decent lads/lasses/banter here.
Or the alternative is to work together to get rid of this negativity and bring Saxp back to the forum that most people joined here for, the banter and cars

I think the main problem is this, this is why these threads are being made because certain people are taking the forum too seriously, its cringe worthy & many members are getting pissed off at how serious the forum is being taken and moderated.

Seeing alot of these threads lately and i dont know whats going with some of you
I dont see why it needs to go this far?
ive been on here for a couple years now and still enjoy saxp as much as when i joined, i try not to get too involved in serious banter but everyone likes to have a laugh now and again
some people take things too far, agreed
the only time ive had an issue on here was that KINGVTS guy, anyone remember him? Lol..
he pm'd me a few times offering to knock my teeth out at car meets, purely coz i told him to calm down abit... much need?
Saxp isnt dieing, people just need to wake up and stop moaning for the sake of moaning, if your having a bad day, or feel something is going wrong.. log out for abit?
do you really need to keep making threads crying about it? no..
All in my opinion but as ive said, never really had a problem with saxp, and some people just need to back off abit..

Yet another thread on this "issue" of this forum ceasing to exist, don't see a need for more discussion on what I can see is essentially a strong armed clear up of shit. There might be a few areas that people can feel aggrieved about, but surely a discussion directly with moderator's is more apt.
OP give it a rest. Literally jumping on a bandwagon.

Nothing wrong with it. Mods have clamped down again as they always do when things get out of control.
The only thing I have seen is as Matt said, people being warned or getting infractions for harmless joking around with people they have always done when it doesn't affect any other people.

A fair few people have already left along with other talking about it, alot of people have noticed this problem, so it isnt just a few people having a bad day.
People aint making threads crying about it, they're making threads to bring it to the mods attention and hopefully sort something out. If we feel theres a problem just log out? lol thats like, if theres a problem on your car just turn the radio up abit more. It wont get sorted without tackling it.

The people getting infractions are the people taking it too far, older members making newer members leave coz they dont fit in yet?
Pathetic..
Im just saying my views from the couple years ive used saxp ive never had a problem
Just coz people have "got away" with things for so long, and now its being clamped down on, doesnt mean it was right to do in the first place
Its a car forum, not a social networking site, and people are taking this way too far......
i do agree that general chat is general chat and should be used as general chat, if it goes off topic does it really matter? no..
but does it need to turn in to spam and the odd racial slur just to be funny? no..

It is a car forum but it was also a community which is no longer.
I have no idea about people getting infractions or older members making new ones leave though, but if they're the ones taking it too far then they're getting their infractions right?
I ain't too fussed what happens to the forum as I don't use it all that much anymore, but its nothing on what it used to be, and I can see it getting worse every time I come on. I would have thought people would want the best for the forum so they can continue using it to the same level.
Like leeroy has said, im too usually one of the ones saying get over it, times change etc, but this is far too obvious this time round!

Ppl are in a mood because it's one rule for clique members and brown tongues
And another rule for the rest of the forum... And that things that have been no issue for years are now big issues
All the decent members have either been banned, left, or are thinking of leaving because of all the heavy handed ruling and double standards

Im pretty busy so please excuse my broad brush post here.
New rules? There havent been any new rules released. Signature advertising has never been allowed as we have paying affiliates who contribute actual moniez that help to pay for the forum. This is regardless of all the website/forum experts out there that will tell me they haz a forum and it only costs 12p to run. All thats changed recently is that we (moderating team) have actually enforced it. That is a fact of this forum life and will not be changing. This does not mean you cant have a link to your for sale thread in your sig or anything else.
Swearing - this was brought up recently and we changed tact, over the weekend the mods have discussed it and we have came to agreement that we go back to how it was previously. i.e. general swearing is "acceptable" (common sense applies here) but as per previous "aggressive" swearing to another member wont be tolerated. Swearing in thread titles has always been against the rules for simple reasons.
I am welcoming suggestions on what people feel is so wrong with this place. Openly happy to hear it.
We acted recently on a lot of feedback from new members who felt they couldnt post due to trolling etc.. etc... so this was acted upon. From what I can see this has had a positive impact.
This forum in general is very freely policed. People can get away with a lot but it comes to a point where things get away from us, we act, people have a gripe, things calm down then repeat every 3-6 months.
As above im happy to take all views but there will never be a way to please absolutely everyone but i will try to.

Good approach Scott. One of the things I have noticed is not advertising a business but helping other members be aware of offers that are no where near associated with what saxp is, such as discounts for protein shake etc. I dont see what the problem is here, its not specifically aiming to help a business but raise awareness for other members so they get a good deal. Im sure the people advertising the offers couldnt give a shit about the company it is offering these deals.
Then in the tech sections people are asking if other members know of a link to a companies eBay shop as their online shop wasnt live and that got removed. Its like "hi can someone help me find some black powerflex bushes please?" "no sorry we cant post links here they get removed" Certain mods who have moderated this then overlook it in other threads and actually give an opinion or help them but not others, along with editing their past posts to cover up rules they have broken them selves lol
The 6 month thing you talk about happens all the time with people saying OMG forums dead. Its just certain times of the year etc, but this time alot of people are leaving because of how strict the forum is, when it was running fine as it was. Fair enough on not welcoming new members and giving them a bad impression or turning them away, thats obvious a legit reason to hand out infractions or something. Something that is repeatedly mentioned is how people need to be able to self moderate to a certain degree, and I think this needs to apply to certain mods, they need to moderate to a certain degree, but not go too far, its a bit like the film hot fuzz, but more unnecessary rather than doing their job correctly.
I am still unsure why people are so "bothered" about what people write about them on the internet?!
Where/who has said this? I agree.

Scott, you have used double standards against me a few times in the past, not recently but a year maybe 3 ago, and you couldn't have made it any more obvious it was a double standard lol. That was a while ago though, nothing recent.
EDIT: Members aint leaving for the fact they cant have a link in their sig or whatever but more for how the mods/mod are acting. Its almost a laughing matter how seriously the forum is being taken. You could say that for the people bringing all this up, but are they not just highlighting the fact certain people taking the forum so seriously when it isnt necessary?

Just for the record, I am not complaining myself about the level of swearing or childish behavior etc, all though some of it does get out of hand and I understand why some threads get locked/deleted and people get banned because they go too far.
I am however stating the fact that I have noticed a difference in the way people and things are being handled and its got to the point where it almost feels like we are all being treated like school kids because of a few people who fuck it up for the rest!

My problem Scott is the way the mods are handling it. If I would have got a pm saying "sorry mate shake up with the rules you cant have an advert in you Sig any more" I would have taken it down my self but I get a pm saying "you have a red card and if you do it again we will ban you" I'm like wtf I have been on sax-p since 2004 and helped out loads of time and this is the thanks I get for it. I don't want thanks as that is what I like to do. It just felt to me like a bit of a slap in the face the way it was dealt with.

I think its funny how your sig gets replaced with this other thing. I know the point behind it, so that you know the reason and so that other people see it and know not to do it. But its so cheesy :homme: and OTT for a lil saxo forum.

With swearing, someone was called a lucky bastard the other day, which was promptly edited by Ross, why? No offense in that IMO, its an expression, I've said that to many people and have been told the same thing myself?
If swearing is such an issue then put a swear filter on.
Also, the constant post editing does seem a bit much.
Other than that everything seems normal to me.
I thought the advertising in sigs was taking the piss, and agree that it should be removed.
I think there just needs to be a more uniform approach from all of the mods, that's all. I don't think any particular mod is doing anything wrong, just there seems to be inconsistencies.

Scott, you have used double standards against me a few times in the past, not recently but a year maybe 3 ago, and you couldn't have made it any more obvious it was a double standard lol. That was a while ago though, nothing recent.
Great thanks for point this out, i wasnt personally aware of the removing of "unrelated" sig links but will take this up as a discussion point immediately.
Again i wasnt aware of the removing of ebay links used in that manner. Of course thats not healthy to the forum and its not something i want in place. I was only aware of sig advertising being removed and IF the links were to promote that individuals business on sax-p, general links to other things as a suggestion should not be removed, again ill take this up immediately.
Agree mods need to have a degree of self moderation and we often discuss this amoungst ourselves. Again if issue is taken with a decision then they can be discussed with myself or another moderator. We are all big boys and will knock heads together to discuss and reflect. Unfortunately though in a lot fo cases people immediately take issue with a moderator just because they are one :S anyway thats another story.
LOL i genuinely dont remember doing it but wont take issue with you saying I did as you clearly have a case to. We should have had a mud wrestle about it but ill take on board what you have said and have a word with myself (this isnt meant to sound sarcastic)

As above the mods had a discussion over the last week about swearing and thought we would try it out. We have had a further discussion about it and we are reverting back to the previous level of moderation on swearing. This was based on the feedback such as yours so have changed to try to accomoate again

Not really into mud wrestling mate, it allows things to slip where I don't like it, we can have a dance off though?
Good to see you agree on the points I have brought up, it doesn't effect me at all, I just don't think its good for the forum which I mentioned in the other thread. Its just reducing saxp as a tool. I posted the rules also and it clearly shows the eBay links not being allowed in the for sale section or sigs to aid a sale. I thought it was common sense eBay links would be posted in the tech sections asking if its the correct part or a well built product in the first place, again sometimes its overlooked and other times moderated out with the same mod in both threads posting. Inconsistency.
They are the more obvious points, without naming names I just think the new mods should take on the same approach as the older mods, the idea of having new mods is to cover more threads and be online when other existing mods aint online right? It seems the new ones are just taking things abit too far. In fact it seems we only have one maybe two mods at the moment, thats how much they are everywhere moderating every minor thing. The older mods you dont see of much, maybe because they have the right level of moderating? Thats my opinion anyway.

That's cool.
It's my only real bugbear tbf.
I swear in day to day life, I see no reason why that shouldn't carry over. However I do agree when it is used to insult someone then it's a different matter, I have infractions for this myself.

I'm Glad this is finally being looked at in a proper fashion, and for once being taken seriously, Danny and others have already pointed out a lot of things worth mentioning
Unfortunately there is a click(not really bothered by this- if ppl want to give each other poop tashes they're more then welcome) but there is a lot of double standards, particular regarding a lot of the stuff that is already mentioned, one thing being someone gets infraction etc, threads locked etc- others get to carry on
Not me personally but I've spoke to a few who feel theyve been treated very unfairly and basically got the auto drivvle reply from mods when they e highlighted the way they feel
I think that's not on- if your going to police something it needs to be blanket or properly clarified between the staff
The double standards I seen a lot of a while back, we're my sale threads gettig deleted for selling flocked stuff (no issues with that as I wasn't paid up/ although your aware I wanted to) yet other members threads get left when they ate clearly offering products and services
A lot of my sale threads were deleted for having more then 2- no issues with that till is see several members bumping 6+ threads at a time and them being left?? Really
Also- in terms of this thread, if your not involved and don't have issues, why not stop posting? Clearly a lot do have issues, as being addressed now, and the fact these threads keep popping up?- so why keep posting the same thing you post every time you see these threads? You might be getting sick of seeing them, but I bet more ppl are getting sick of reading your pathetic asw replies??

There is always a period of adjustment and its something that will take a little time. Kinda like starting a new job, enthusiasm is at its peek etc...
Though a number of the issues being brought up here are as much my fault as any of the moderators as we agreed to make some changes, we have now seen the impact of these changes and are again changing the how we deal with them as direct consequence of feed back now being generated.
We are pretty relaxed and if people would let us know (like you have btw) we can have a look and see what we can do to adjust and make life easier for us all. At the end of the day I as a moderator dont really want to spend my time banning/editing/issuing warnings my primary idea is to use the site like all the users as an area to learn, spread knowledge and have a bit of a giggle. Moderators are just normal users and are there as a safe guard.

that last bit is kinda true "if you have a problem then log out", if you're not involved with the thread don't enter it and tell people you are not involved lol and tell people if you have a problem then log out. Imagine if Asda and huge companies said that, always happy to help - 'if you have a problem go shop elsewhere' lol

Thanks for taking it on board too, usually threads like these get locked but its good things are being looked in to and members are being listened to. I'm not going to be effected by any of the changes or problems here but I just feel the forum should be maintained or revived slightly rather than it sliding into the web archives. Maybe this thread is the forums parachute from falling any more than it has recently.

Just to play devils advocate for a moment, how many of those (example) 6 posts did you report though? Because if you reported that to a mod and it wasn't dealt with, I can understand your frustration. :S
BUT - it's frustrating for mods to find threads that remain unreported but full of comments, for example, a spambot advertising watches, with the thread full of "do one" or "noob die" posts. But no one actually reports it. Then "the mods" are blamed for not keeping on top of it.
Whilst there are more mods now Simon, myself and others have come on board, we still can't validate every thread and rely heavily on upstanding members (yes, even you can be upstanding Blackie :p) pointing us towards things we need to look at.
I can name on one hand the frequent users of the report button where it's used for genuine reports. And all of them get a "thanks" via pm when I deal with something they've highlighted.
We need the members to help us to help themselves too. :)

I personally noticed that an individual was appointed as a Mod, immediately after that noticed his sig which seemed like he was taking the role all too serious...All hail the new mod etc...
I then noticed, comments being edited or deleted which was in no way bullying etc. just friendly banter and mild swearing..
I then noticed sigs being edited which doesn't advertise a company. My protein for example (can i mention a company name?) removed from sigs even though it wasn't advertisement just a discount code...
As a result of removing peoples my protein sigs, the name has been advertised all over the forum asking why it has been removed, more than it would of been 'advertised' in peoples sigs...
I think the real problem is that there are a lot of mardy twats who can't bear not to get more out of the forum than anyone else...

Yeah im aware, im also painfully aware of my lack of responses to you are unacceptable. It is a bit of an ongoing thing to be honest and we have banded a number of ideas about as to how we can/cant/might be able to support smaller affiliates and as yet we cannot get anything defined that would be able to keep everyone happy. Appreciate thats not what this thread is for but i did want to highlight that my lack of response was/is unacceptable.
Agree that some do either get missed or are left alone, this cant happen now we have set a standard and its up to us to maintain it. Like Reevsey earlier highlighting the stuck thread in ICE, its now gone i had completely been overlooking that fact it was there as im in the ICE section a lot. Again this was enthusiasm rather than a waving of a flag of a new position, new people bring new ideas and a desire to get things straight.
As above its really unfortunate that this has reflected on the new mods, they have been a victim of the whole teams circumstance. We as a team agreed to do some new things, just so happens the new guys were first onto it and now look like "bad guys". We have looked at this as per your point on swearing and we have reverted back to how it was. Again it just so happens the new guys beat us old farts to it and it makes it look like they were over the top, it was a mod team decision.
We have spoken about the myprotein links etc... which actually goes against our rules (technically) however we have agreed amoungst ourselves to bend our own rules slightly. For instance the linking to myprotein doesnt impact directly on any of the forum supporters so will again be allowed. Anything that promotes competition against the affiliates IF the member is promoting their own business will be removed. Rules havent changed in regards ebay links to selling stuff, it should be a link to your saxp advert.
We are trying to roll with the punches on a lot of stuff over the last week or so. We made some changes, some guys actively acted on them, negative impacts noted on the forum and now we are changing again to hopefully stike the best medium for everyone involved.

As Scott has eluded to, we're continually trying to find the balance, and with new mods it should help, although WITH those new mods, you can find some inconsistencies. "Double standards" kind of implies it's intentional, and it's obviously not, we're just settling in.
We, like everyone else, want the best for the forum, and still want to use it as normal people too :)

Coming into a few things a bit late...
Regarding general chat and it being 'general chat so shouldn't matter' - again I shall say what I keep repeating. Self moderation is the key, quite often threads which are useful to the community (via search) get trashed by people acting like dicks for the Lolz.....
Now I have always said threads which are clearly garbage, like 'what are you having for dinner' it's obvious this is more appropriate for us to be relaxed about pointless posts in instead of serious stuff about say a legal issue.
Heck there's a couple of threads on nightshirt workers where alot of crap is posted that was left alone. I'm sure the whiners will ignore this though.

That was the best decision made recently. It took far too long to happen though.
There has been a good decrease in shit since he left. No shit from him and nothing from his group of lovers playing up to impress him.

Umm, personally I don't think, or at least can't say I have noticed much wrong. Ok, apart from the advertising parts, I can see both sides of the coin, yes it's unfair to Simo and the affiliates because they are paying their share of ad space, but yes it's also unfair to some individual sellers, for all we know it could be the sole income.
I don't think any mods have been too harsh as of late, but then again I try to keep my distance from them. In fact I have never used the report a post button before, because I havn't had to.
As for the post counts, yeah get rid of them. Just a glory hunting/forum status symbol. For example, Oh, I have 15k posts, and been here 2 months, I'm really worth asking a question, or Oh Hi, I have 15k posts and am one of the founding members. Get what I mean?
I don't believe SaxP is dying either.

At the end of the day Sax-p will always be active, as new people will replace the ones lost.
People who leave because someone went too far, should have a look at there insecurity issues in real life.
When I've made some pointless threads and got flamed for it, I laughed along for the majority of it, only got concerned when someone took it too far and messaged on facebook the person it was about.
People need to man up

I really don't see the big upset. I'm not against a good spam fest or a troll occasionally, but moderation in frequency is key :geek:
So moderation has kicked up a gear :homme: It's only to respond unprovoked attacks on newbies and increase in spam.
Once things level out and members chill, it will be business as usual.
As for "dying out" :panic:
http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu324/Rogue-_-Shadow/Newmembers.jpg
Nope, still growing :p
Of course long term members will move on, join more relevant forums ect. But alot still come back. However if we simply let the older generation of members "rule" the forum, newer members wont feel part of the community and take part. Because that's what is boils down to, saxp plays a significant role in showcasing the Saxo and French car modding. Be it the stickers on the cars that get the awkward question (Sexperience lolz), or stands and showcases at car events.
When all the older members move on from saxos, who will fill these stands? Who will have stickers on the cars? Why would newbies want to spend a day or associate themselves with a closed off group of forum members. The Saxo's days are far from numbered, with plenty good examples on the road and plenty eager unchaved owners willing to take on projects ... Which brings us full circle.
Saxperience is Doomed! WITHOUT moderation to keep new members welcomed and happy and to give current members boundaries.
Rules keep things comfy :y:
The forums should really have a "Day's since Doomed Thread" counter :fcuk:
It's only the internetz!
Mr_X
10th September 2012, 18:07
My thoughts.
Saxp is the same as before, simply different names.
I would like to think of saxp as a "social" network, its a community ffs.
What is saxp stance on group buys? I guess this is advertising.
Glad the cool story bro BS has ended.
People who bash noobs for threads which seem obvious should fuck off.
The standard SEARCH reply is usless without a good link.
Leading to the search v bump debate, noobs lose twice.

Theres a big difference between "hey guys look at this thing on eBay" and "hey guys, buy my things in eBay"
The issue is people trying to promote their things for sale on eBay, a rule on pretty much every forum I am on.

Ross...
May i ask why ebay links are disallowed for members advertisements, yet for references it is allowed?
Allow me.....
Because if members are too lazy to write their own advert in here and give a price then they shouldn't be allowed to use the site for advertising...
There are rules relating to stating a price that would be contradicted by allowing users to advertise a link on an auction site

Oh come on guys, get some sand, cement, build a bridge, and get over it.
Its Saxp, if it ends, it ends. Its not the end of your lives. It still remains a place where the information can be taken from and used, but the forum itself will gain and lose members as the years go on, similar to what the earlier members are going through when the later 09+ members joined.
Think of it this way, we're all growing up. Its not the 'community' it once was, but then again, that's life.

Ah I see,
So in some cases it may not necessarily be an assured price.
And therefore may only be able to speculate a price?

Why should it have to turn into you posting pointless shite? It should still be here for if any other members want to discuss the topic.
Exactly the point raised earlier, people whinge when things get locked down yet clearly are incapable of knowing when not to act like a knob.

In the same way they always do, either by PM (relevant mods are displayed at the foot of each forum page) or by using the contact button on the main page
To be fair, in my years of moderating I've only had a few members contact me with "issues" but if they are a genuine concern they get dealt with there and then

It is, but if it's being run how they want it run, the kind of members they want will still be around. Quality > Quantity at the end of the day...
I don't really post anything constructive in terms of saxos, and I dare say I troll a bit, although I do try and make serious and useful posts every now and then as well, and I try not to take it too far and I'm trying to be nicer and not insult people as much, but I wouldn't have been surprised if I'd been banned before now.
But yeah, obviously if it's being overmoderated to the detriment of the site and they are willing to listen to a well made point, then that's good.

Haven't used this site in a while, but it's a fair point that bullying was going on and "banter"/abusing new ignorant memebers and certain existing ones, don't be dismissive with "it's just the internet/it's just a forum/it's just banter" including established members/regular posters of the forum doing most of it who were also posting a lot of unfunny shit and irrelevant garbage trying really hard to be funny. Can understand why it was getting annoying. That said I think general chat should be loosley moderated... Spend the time moderating the other sections harshly!

The issue with being very loosely moderated in this section is as mentioned there's alot of crao being posted by people thinking they're funny.
The ganging up on members generally happend by the muppets in general chat and so forth.
Still we have removed several suspects who were at the center of just posting pointless shite and trying to upset newbies so hopefully others will take note and begin to behave a bit more in that respect.
Totally agree with you that 'it's the Internet/banter get over it' is totally not a valid excuse to abuse people.

Why put 'just saying" at the end of the post? It's obvious you're saying it.
Offline moderating has the benefit of allowing them to be able to see the people that play up when they think moderators aren't around.
But why delete things like Moke's comments earlier that were directly aimed at me?
Probably because it was all pointless crap that had nothing to do with the thread. Something that has been mentioned as an issue which needed moderating more strictly.

It's a public forum. Racist jokes even between friends are easily misread by others, hardly great to get known as the racist forum.
And add to the fact that all he was trying to do was post utter shite to derail this thread.
