yeah the boy before me had cut the cable and solered the two end to a fuse and rapped it in tape and yesterday it must have started to melt and burst the solered so the fuel pump would not work

Right, I'll explain it for you then.

Cable to fuel pump is one piece. Someone cut the cable, thus making it 2 pieces. The person who cut the cable has then soldered the ends of the cable to a fuse, putting a fuse in the middle of it or whatever, and then taped it up. It's now melted.

I had to do the same as a temporary fix (but using a to the wire that went from the fusebox to the reverse lights (I think) on my BMW... the clips snapped and it caught the propshaft (I think) and it went right through the cable, causing it to blow the fuse that controlled the instrument cluster and rear lights, what fun that was! Especially before I knew what had happened and kept replacing fuses...
