Mum has received a letter from Metropolitan Police claiming she was caught speeding 67Mph in a 50Mph zone in central London at 07:01 on the 12/11/2012 and intending prosecution.

The number plate on the letter from the Police is the same as my mums car. The problem is, We live 50 miles from London and at 07.01, My mum was at home and had just answered the door to look after a kid in the morning before school (She is a child minder). Also on that day, my sister was starting a new school so mum would had waved her off.

There isn't a telephone number to ring up and explain your plates were cloned. You can only return the form with your details filled out so how would she go about proving this to them? Simply write on a headed letter explaining where she was and the plates are cloned? She has attendance books that the children's mum signs and witnesses.

You need to call the dvla and explain that the plates have been cloned. They will then decide weather to issue you with new plates and put the old reg number on the ANPR system as driver warning so get pulled when a camera or police spot them. They are normally pretty helpful. Proving that it was not her driving is a another matter. Normally only a attended doctors appointment or similar can get you off.

Who's Lorna?

Bedford126 - I suggested that mum should NOT complete the form and and to leave the form empty then send it back along with a letter explaining that YES, she does own a VW Passet(Alleged vehicle involved) but she wasn't in London at the time at the alleged offence.

Surely you can write back and in her excuse say that she was speeding up to 88mph to go back in time? :homme:

Love you really Daniel <3

Fuck you! Dominic!

You could look at it that she does have the compatibility of driving up to 88Mph.. While you have the compatibility to travel up to 0Mph. No wheels y0 :homme:

Doesn't look like a VW to me. Plates are UK spec too.

She is thinking of this as her next car and wants a husband that looks like Dom. He'll sit in the passenger seat like a boss.

It's a legal requirement to complete the form accurately. She MUST return it regardless of if the alleged incident information on it is accurate or not. Not completing the form is a separate offence to the one you're accused of on the form.

Attach a covering letter explaining the circumstances. Proof the vehicle could not have been where they say it was will be required. Note the difference - not proof of where she was, proof of where the car was. You drive it anywhere there might be CCTV you can ask for help from? Local corner shop getting the paper, that kind of thing.

Send it back with the details, but dont sign it.

I personally would suggest that there is some mis information above.

She cannot fill the form in completely because in section B of the NIP, she needs to state that she was not the driver. This she can do BUT she must then fill in section C giving the name and address of the possible driver/company it could be. This she can not do.

I would firstly not panic. I have an 'alleged' speeding offence from 2nd May this year. I still have not completed the NIP that was sent.

My situation is very different but in your Mums circumstance I would write to the Police force that have issued the NIP and explain the situation. Photographic evidence could help but if not, other avenues will have to be pursued.

Hope that helps a little.

Confused as to how the date is in the future, yet you say that certain things happened on the day in question-such as your sister starting a new school?

If you've put the date in here wrong then as said, call the met police office and explain the situation and ask for graphic evidence of the car in question as you believe the plates are clones.

If you've put the date in correctly, how much for the Delorean?

Hopefully your local Police station will then make contact with the MET and get them to look out for the cloned car too. My Ex had the plates stole off her car, and the local Police gave her some form (sorry can't remember what one) that she had to carry about in the car with proof of identity so they could look out for the 'false' car.
