Quck question about police

Just a quick question, me n my mate pulled up on a small street earlier tonight with my mate stopping next to me to ask him something, and at the top of the street two police men walked past, turned back and walked towards us , they got a note pad out and got onto their radio instantly, what does that generally mean?

Usually a general check, taking your number plate making sure you have tax,mot,insurance and that the car isnt reported stolen ect.

But we drove past a unmarked t5 about 5 mins after, they stared at us but didn't follow us/pull us over?

Yeah they do it there, if you dont have insurance or its reported stolen then they might radio to a near by car. They can check it all over the radio anyway.

im just abit paranoid when it comes to police even if i havnt done anything wrong, so just wanted to know what it generally means when police do that
