Hello peeps,
I've managed to isolate a really annoying rattle on the VTS - the problem is I can't see how to fix it and wondered if anyone else has come across it.
The rattle is inside the door skin on the hatch - where the fixings are for the hatch support struts. The strut fixes to a "ball ended" bolt that passes through the door skin to a captive nut that's attached to a large metal plate (to spread the load). When I lift the door up to fully open and then lower it slightly there's a "pinking" (highish pitched metallic noise) coming from the plate at the back.
I can get a hand/fingers down to the plate and have tried tightening the "ball ended" bolt, also trying to wedge something under the edge of the plate (between the plate and door skin) and bending the edges of the plate up but none of these remove the noise (which annoyingly happens when I'm driving over a non-smooth surface). The only solution I've found is to remove the "hatch struts" but that's not the solution I want.
P.S. The VTR does not have this problem and the rear hatches are identical but don't think the misses would appreciate it if I pinched her back door - ooeeerrrr misses lol
Any ideas ?????????????
