I read that for every 20 litres of fuel they use 1 litre of engine oil
If that's true.. How quick you think it will go through 20 litres ;)?

Haha thats utter BS, think about it.
They would bother producing it if so...
Mate had one, expensive to run.

400 litres of fuel = 20 litres of oil?
Probably majorly failing at 1:12am lol.

Well that's a load of shite.....
There not bad cars really mpg isn't the best and the rotar tips go your engine is pretty much fucked.

Mate had one, got to let them fully warm up before switching them off.
For every 4-5 full tanks of fuel they can use half their oil since the engine is designed to pass oil into the combustion chamber.
You must rev them to 9,000rpm at least once everytime you drive them to de coke the engine.
They are amazing handling cars a lot better than MX5's and not as twitchy and unpredictable as an S2000, If you can get one off an RX8 enthusiast who has used it properly you shouldn't have any problems.
They need an oil change every 3,000 miles and only average about 25mpg at best.
Also they are known to kill catalytic converters.
I would love one eventually just would want to be in a position financially where I could fix one if it went wrong, just don't go expecting you can pick one up for £2,500 run it for a year and it will be minimal running costs, they are cheap for a reason but not because they are shit, the 230's with the LSD are amazing cars on track

Not true. They don't like being started, moved and then switched straight off, granted. But you don't have to go on a mad 20 minute drive just to make sure it's warmed up before you can shut it off. Not to mention, you can just rev it, then shut it off, so it purges any fuel left in the combustion chamber straight out.
Mate of mine had one, he loved it. Was a 231, so wasn't particularly slow, sounded mega, and, although yes, he had it rebuilt at one point (along with the obligatory porting), they're not as bad as people make out.

mine was ok liked it feels a nice car interiour is comfy but mpg isnt too good was getting same sorta mileage my vtr gets on decat. was nice to drive and feels alot more expensive than it is.
but as said drinks oil and if u buy a cheap shit one you'll be shelling out money left right and centre. i joined rx8 forum done my homework and luckily the one i picked up was a minter but sadly sold it due to having to keep 3 cars on road and wasnt the most sensible family car

My mate just sold one, didn't use much oil, had no problems with it.
MD here has one?!?!? rapes it, has no problems with it, hammers it from cold and doesn't let it cool down, his doesn't use much oil either?

i have alot of experience with rx7's and they have the same 13b rotary in them.
people say that they use oil as though its a bad thing. they are designed to...
never thrash them cold and warm them up and they will be fine.
if you get a rebuild with Hurley Tips, they wont wear out. if not, as a rule, every 60K you need a rebuild. Once they have blown up they will cost more to build, but if not, your looking around £1800. Really not that much considering...
test drive one and see if you like it, the rx8s are abit tame in comparison with their older brother the 7, but are nice! and they are so smooth!

I personally think they're ugly! good to drive but drink fuel a fair bit.. Spend a little more and get its big brother:y:

My mate had one and he said fuel economy was non existent, tax was stupidly priced and it used a lot of oil. In addition to this he drove it one night then parked on his drive. After putting the handbreak on, 30 minutes after leaving the car and going into his house it rolled itself down his drive and into a brick wall (must have been the breaks being hot and then cooling).

My cousin got one I remember him saying the early types are a cheaper tax band, they Di burn a bit of oil but it's no where near as bad as people on here are making out
I had it for 2 weeks and if your doing a fair few miles urban driving juice goes quite quickly
And they aren't very powerful at all you could relax and be flatout

All hear say! I've owned two, the oil hype is bs! I didn't need to touch oil for at least 2.5k!
Would defo have another! But I've always done plugs and coils day I've brought them!

cant believe how so many people go on about them drinking loads of oil as my mothers got one (231 spec) has had it nearly 3 years from 28k its now on 76k. has had no problems at all gets new oil and filter every 5000miles.
I used it for 2 months while my saxo was off the road in june/july this year , just like any turbo car really just let it warm up and cool down (even with the non turbo ones as well iirc). Its not amazing on fuel around highest i got was 31mpg and lowest was 13mpg but that was absolutely hammering it . love the way it handled and loved the way it pulled all the way to 8.5k never took it to the limiter which is just over 9k (9,150rpm iirc ?).
only thing i hated about the car was the bose cd player isnt the best and is a known problem inside these and just a personal hate was the heated seats switch was behind in line with the handbrake and i always knocked it causing me to get a rather hot backside and wonder why ha ha

I didn't know they did a turbo renesis engine from factory, though I'm sure BBR would put a kit together for you.
Also the power gains that can be had from these is silly, with people seeing 100%+ gains NA.

After a quick nose on pistonheads a few of them say they have the "hot" issue? Anyone shed any light on this?

They're alright IMO, wouldn't part with money for one though. My barber has a black one but it's got seriously low mileage for the age (07 I think) and he treats it like his baby but even so he's just had to pay a fair bit to have silly little things like seals on a light (IIRC) sorted which I personally wouldn't expect from a Jap car.
I wouldn't want to buy out of warranty for sure - I can see them getting bloody expensive later on in life personally...

its not a turbo engine in the 231?
also, i would put more oil in before 5K runs out...

Many of the early models suffer from rot underneath along with various cold-start issues and niggles. Also newer models are in the £460 tax bracket. Very thirsty and like oil. My mate who is a JDM import specialist who has had loads of them confirmed this, which is why people can't give these away now days, cheap as chips.
I do really like the styling of these, not sure I'd want to own one as a daily though.
