Decided after 3 years of owning my vtr, it was time to move on!
for the last year or so ive been umming and arring about selling up for something new, the whole time ive been saving around £100-150 a week towards "New Car Fund" - trying to find something thats not much bigger than a saxo, looks pretty awesome, sounds good when you boot it, and returns fair mpg when you drive on the frugle side..
wasnt sure what to go for.. drove passed one of these, fell in love and had to get one! I know they arent everyones cuppa' - heck I used to hate them, but over the last 6 months they have really grown on me!
drove to port talbot - south wales (65miles from home, each way) to go see a Racing blue clio 182 both cup packs and the white stripes... looks the part, test drove like a dream, paper work all up to date and decided it was the one for me, put £100 deposit down, drove home again, sorted some insurance out, got my dad to give me a lift back out there, parted with my hard earned pennies, and drove it home with a smile on my face the saxo never managed to give me...
Sorry for the life story above, im abit excited and cant wait for the sun to come up so i can give it a proper wash and have a play with it!!

Love it to bits, the power band @ 4krpm is bonkers (used to driving vtr.. so yeh)
Plans are-
needs a wash ;)
Trophy turinis - 182 cup wheels are curbed up and prefer turinis anyway!
good set of coilovers (just to bring the height down abit //arch gap)
upgrade the audio (havent actually heard the sound quality yet, was enjoying the exhaust too much!)
de-tango the indicators (silvervision bulbs)
new set of number plates (its currently on personal plates "D20 CJG" but the previous owner wants them back, belonged to his mother who passed away - Sentimental value)
maybe a new steering wheel, thumb grips look like they are on their way out, but still pretty tidy compared to some
spruce up the engine bay (Carbon / blue pipes / maybe a tad bit of chrome)
and enjoy it!

Cambelt history?
Pauper spec model, but definitely the best colour!
All history is up to date, cam belt, aux belt, dephaser all changed 4 months ago..
pauper spec? The "Cup" is the bottom line, has no extra and doesnt really save any weight.. the 172 cup was a stripped out hardcore thing, the 182 cup was just a name carried over to sell the bottom model :\
this is a 182 with both cup packs, more luxuries for the money :y:
abs
xenons
traction control
cruise control
air con
cup wheels
cup spoiler
cup suspension
cup splitter (altho its in the boot not attached yet)
leather/alacantra seats (Very nice btw)
Best colour!

As above, aux, cam, and dephaser done recently! all paper work to prove it :)
oh I like these!
I love it! hardly slept last night waiting for the sun to come up so we can play!
very nice, best colour too!
frugal btw ;)
been trying to hunt an RB for months! this one was "Fairly" local and everything spot on, had to have it! Frugal? ok thanks haha :)
Really nice cars but for me the stripes look gay (I know they are standard btw)
I prefer the stripes, always been a fan of off-center stripes, but im of the redline/max power days.. could just be me
2118's > Turinis.
im not a fan of the 2118's.. but they seem to be growing on me, just like i hated clios.... they have really grown on me and think they look awesome!
I do love that colour! Always fancied ago of one, suppose to be very similar to the 306 gti6?
only cars ive "Driven" are saxo vtr, and a 106gti with 176k miles on the clock... so cant really judge on a 306 gti6, dont know much about em!
This thing is a whole nother league!
Suns up (well trying to be!) So im heading out to wash it, pics up asap :)

Standard dampers with eibachs is a better choice unless you are spending a LOT on coil overs. Good choice on the FF too, the 182 cup is pauper spec.
Also I think you mean the power "kick" at 5000 rpm not 4000 ;)

Pics added 1st post!
Sorry they are only crappy phone pics, needs a detail and some proper nice photos (soon!)
shes a 54 plate with 70k odd miles, but FSH folder full of receipts for everything about the car, and the condition speaks for its self, I paid £3000 which i feel is more than fair, shes mint inside and out, bar 1 scratch by the drivers door handle, and a teeny dint on the passanger side just at the end of the side strip, i cant see the dint when im looking for it, just catches my eye now and again if you stand at a silly angle lol
You can get 182's for more and for less, but i wanted to hold out for an RB with the stripes and this one came up so i jumped at it
im 24 (25 not til april) covered as an additional car to my current vtr insurance policy til it runs out next month (£72,75 for 30 days fully comp)
and new policy will start next month when i have 1 years no claims, licence held for 2 years @ £820 fully comp
renewal for the vtr was coming back around £700mark.. felt that the extra £120 or so a year was more then worth it!
Now i need to sell the vtr before 24th of oct.. no where to keep it and im not renewing the insurance lol

Cambelt history?
Pauper spec model, but definitely the best colour!
Elaborate why its pauper spec?
The bandwagon say my 200 is pauper spec because its not got the cup pack.
I didn't want the cup pack, the suspension is hard enough now and test driving the cup model was even harder and I didn't want that on a road car which is not going on a track.
pauper [ˈpɔːpə]
n
1. a person who is extremely poor
If it was 'pauper' to not have the cup pack then surely it would be cheaper?

You got a crappy rear bench, seats, a wheel that wasnt trimmed nicely, no climate or xenons in the 182 cups. Obviously you still got the cup handling items but you only saved a smidgeon of weight which is quite a bit different to the 172 vs 172 cup

Must be different in the 182 then because my rear bench is not 'crappy'. I have climate control and the steering wheel is trimmed nice. My front seats are not recaros but I didn't want buckets, I wanted something which is comfortable.
It fucks me off when people call it 'pauper spec' as if the buyer didn't get the cup pack and a few optional extras because they couldn't afford them.
The OP's one looks nice and as long as he is happy then thats all that matters.
The weight difference can hardly be that much in reality?

Removing the stripes is like a summer holiday with the sun :-(
Decent set of HR's and your laughing.
That car above used to be owned by me before Cal :-) And the HR suspension was mega impressive, althought my Trophy at present with the Sachs and Mark fish springs edge aheads at present.

Cup was more of a drivers car, I've had both and the trophy, cup spec one is awesome to drive less heavy.

I was on about the 182 cups, its probably different for the 197s/200
for instance, check those seats and wheel out in the cup 182s
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g120/182clio/Image51.jpg.
Besides the OPs is a full fat with cup packs so he got everything (maybe not the splitter though?)
What I was getting at is with a 182 cup, the balance of luxuries vs performance was out - you got a very very mild weight saving in exchange for the loss of lots of goodies. That said a non AC 182 cup is cheaper to change the belts on.

is it just the 172 cup thats cheap for the belts then? I must be getting confused with the manual control system and the climate computer in the normal 182s

172 has digi climate control
172 cup as no air con
182 cup has a manual button for air con
182 FF digi climate control
182 Trophy has a manual button for air con
Only the 172 cup is cheap to do the belt.

Things like dont bother me, its the way it drives that does.
Trophy makes me smile every time I drive it, as did the 182 FF and the 182 cup, just the trophy is the king in the twistys compared to the others :homme:

Its damn awesome, and quotes werent much more then the vtr (felt worth it to me)
Took the car down the B road twistys on the way home and the handeling is spot on! the car is so balanced compared to my stripped vtr.. nice to have abit more weight over the bank end tbh..
I hear whiteline rear arb improves it 10fold, so ill be investing in one shortly!
