View Full Version : Saxo VTS Better than A Fiesta Zetec S

woodall92

Hi, Im new on this forum and ive owned a fiesta zetec s for the last 6 months. Ive had quite a few problems with it and im in the process of selling it. I put the puma engine in mine and had full exhaust system with a decat, it was running 129bhp. Recently my girlfriend bought a saxo vtr and shes had no problems with it and its a nice car, Ive had a drive of it and it handles just like a go kart! Ive had a quick look around at vts's and found a few alot cheaper than what ive got mine for sale for, so im seriously considering one. Im just wondering power wise handleing and everything would it be a step up from a fiesta or am i just buying the same type of car and should aim higher? Im in the process of saving for a civic type r in january so its only gonna be till then. Thanks

What i was thinking im in 2 minds on getting one or not. It would definatly be the vts. from what Ive read aswell theyre very cheap to modify. I just dont want to be thinking ive down graded.

CrouchyM

If you do Mani + full exhaust + decent intake you can see 130-35bhp ish BHP at fly.

jasonmayall
20th September 2012, 10:56
You could just get a VTS, leave it standard until January - sell it and get a type r?
Win win really?
the Zetec looks nice though. my mate had a red one, but i do prefer the imp's

woodall92
20th September 2012, 10:57
well i need to get rid of the fiesta as its burning a hole in my pocket with its problems. But i want a decent run around for a bit something thats not slow! and something thats easy to sell when the time comes to get a type r

Saxos are not quite as reliable as you may think. (dependant on how they have been treated of course)

Personally I would move onto VAG and reduce the likely hood of problems.

Polo GTI maybe??

woodall92
20th September 2012, 11:03
I was considering a mk3 golf gti, they can be picked up very cheap now. and polo gtis are very hard to find in decent condition, my mate just bought one for 2500 and thats got issues, i only want to spend what i get for my fiesta then im not touching my civic fund.

VTS in my opinion is better in every way. Acceleration, power delivery and is better handling that the fiesta by far.

Had a couple of problems with the Fiesta, no problems with the 4 Saxo's I've had.

Sorry in advance for the ASW.

That fiesta is sex,, love it ! but that vts was owned by jamie on zsoc and thats the one that made me start looking at saxos, its really nice. So you think theyre a lot better?

harry289

Had a 3 VTR's. Get 430-450 miles in them per 45 litre tank. VTR is the best value for money car in the Saxo range. Cheaper tax, cheaper insurance, 45/46mpg normal driving, engines feel strong, never had a problem with them

Got the VTS now and get 330-360 miles per tank. More expensive on tax and little bit more to insure. But the sound is awesome and you can feel the extra power top end in the rev range.

And yeah it's Jamie's old one :)

woodall92
20th September 2012, 11:20
my gfs was more to tax than my fiesta which suprised me. 330 to a tank thats very good considering I get 200 from a tank no matter how i drive lol.

Its very nice, would love to find one that well looked after.

I've had my golf 9 months now and have decided to change parts on it rather than needing them, on the saxo it was a matter of fix it because it's broke and it happened often over the same period.

Vts is better than ZS in every way as people have already pointed out. Better response from engine and handling, smoother power delivery. Heck, when I had my 16v conversion done me and Dom had a little play with a fiesta ST and that couldn't even pull away. Every other dick around here has a ZS, usually imp blue. While they can look smart, they all look the same to me.
A ZS is on par with a VTR power wise, but I'd still have the VTR for handling.

And as with the fuel return you're getting that's shit. My 16v conversion would get just under 400 mile per tank. Even my Toyota MR2 gets around 280-320 a tank without driving carefully.

Owned both as you know,

My Old ZS

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3562/3803627740_e3e2017fda_o.jpg

Had loads of bits waiting to be fitted,

AVO GTZ Coilies
Kent cams
MSD chip
Full miltek to go on including fani mould

I jumped ship as I realised all that would make it on par with a breathered VTS maybe a little quicker.

No point adding pics of the VTS haha.

If I was you I'd wait and buy the Type R. No point spending the money car will only de-value, save the extra pennies for a better Type R.

My VTS put me into nigh on £1000 of debt within the first 6 months of me owning it.

I see what you're saying but this can only further devalue the Saxo's.

Only the strong examples of Saxo's will retain a certain degree of value at the point when these let's face it far better cars enter their price range.

I would get the VTS, but miss out your Type R IF its the EP3 you are after. they're good cars, but a money pit. Their value has plummeted which is good for buyers, but theres alot for sale and hard to sell yours once you have finished with it. I see the Type R going in the same direction as the Saxo a few years ago, and look at their value now.

The VTR possibly for a couple of things, not for the majority.

The VTS no, was an utter nail, not dissimilar to VTS' owned by friends of mine.

Giraffe
20th September 2012, 14:56
My VTR had been ragged and poorly modified, was on like 120k+ with no service history, and didn't let me down once... The manifold cracked but was cheap enough to replace, which I ended up replacing the full engine anyway cos it was so cheap, and also replaced the exhaust for a supersprint, but other than that, it was spot on... I think it's just luck.

Jamie

I'd just like to add.

The only issue I've had with a Saxo was...

Fuses going in my VTR as I used cheap replacements while doing audio install & the exhaust on my VTR went.

VTS was fucking EPIC.

No issues, great mpg & uber quick for a 1.6.

The EP3 price is plummeting, but the saxo doesn't exactly hold it's value...

to the OP: EP3 > mk3 golf = VTS > Fiesta (condition of the car dependant obv)

Unless the Mk3 Golf is a VR6 I wouldn't even bother. And lets face it, if it IS the VR6 then the VTS and Fiesta aren't even in the same league!

The 16v GTi isn't a bad car at all. People always dismiss them as slow and heavy, when in reality they're fairly nippy, not that heavy and offer more comforts inside than a saxo will.

Even the 8v isn't bad, although VTR pace...

Older cars now though, so a host of problems potentially await...

I still say the EP3 is the 'best' of that selection. Mk3 and VTS are equal IMO, both offer slightly different qualitys which may sway the OP.

Edit, something else to consider would be a 306 gti / rallye. IMO, a better car than the saxo, it's added size adds for a nicer ride i think. although that opens a tonne of debates on 306 vs 172 blah blah.

Gandi699
25th September 2012, 10:56
wouldnt touch an 8v mk3 golf myself, a friend of mine has one and to me it doesnt deserve to wear a GTi badge - feels very lardy indeed but the 16v is probably slightly better due to the lowered ride height and more power. VR6 would be nice though just for that sound

I would love a mint VR6 defo over a VTS. I'd also sooner a MK2 GTI.

Not many mint Saxo's around anymore and in the dub scene alot look after them.

If you get a paxo these are the colours to buy in;

Ice Grey - Last of the run 52-53 don't think I've seen any older than a 52
Black - Rare in good nick (as if Saxo's aren't already) everyone loves a black car
Posi Blue (At one point pretty sure this was the general fav colour, VTS would be super rare in good nick)
Wicked Red - Quite rare but they do pop up on PH often and some in good nick.
Mauritius & Green - Green super doopa rare, Mauritius not as rare but still not that many knocking about in good nick.

White - You'll be lucky

Ive been reading on another forum that a Zetec S was built to compete with the VTR, but obviously the Fiesta owners are claiming its as quick than the VTS lol, the Zetec S are rather slow, on par with a VTR. But you probably wouldnt buy a fiesta for any of that but to go to the post office to claim your pension.
