we'll have softcore_blowjob in here in a minute regaling us with how he slogged an RPG back over the fence with a single bilstein B8 next...
Joking aside, that's pretty fucking horrible. Poor bastard. Another life ruined fighting a cause someon in a warm office thought would be a good idea...

Thought he was dead instantly - however he was still alive after 30 mins.
Going to annoy me if he lived or died now.

No after watching all of Our War on tv, the attitude to the aftermath is completely different to how they reacted on there. Just seems a bit fishy imo. But never mind.

I kind of understand what you're saying. I think the bloke being an ANA and not a 'merican changed their attitude slightly.

Serious respect to them how calmly they dealt with it, so weird seeing someone so able just a split second before that happened.
But as said inb4 hardcoreblowjob comes in telling us how you play xbox all day and how its easy really does look easy from seeing that video, suppose in the battlefield though they have half time and dinner breaks dont they or time to fit strut braces and B8s etc.

Wish I never watched it but I think it's important to try to get a sense what these people are going through.
Seen alot of horrible clips in my younger internet years that I wish I hadn't too.

thats horrendous, very similar to stories ive heard of my mates who are serving over there but does seem like ANA hes not got the same army gear on as the others.
Ross
28th September 2012, 07:17
Looked ANA for sure. He's in combats but not JO forces. As you say, gnarly to think he was just trotting along happily on his way, 1/1000 second later and he's on the floor, arm, leg and face royally fucking ruined.
And as I said. All for a war noone wants to fight.
Do any of the troops actually believe in what they're fighting for? And what IS that exactly? Democracy for a state that never asked for it?
At least with Iraq you can blame greed for oil on the mindless loss of life. Afgan? Not a fucking lot :(

Sometimes in life, it's best just to not say anything. You were definitely better off not saying anything. Remember, just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

I'd guess at Afghan National Army. Not watched the video, will not watch the video, but that seems most likely.

That's the thing that got me. The crew is desensitized to it. The medic(s) were amazing. Fast, thorough, professional, calm. The whole team worked so well.
Two things I took away from the video:
Firstly, it's far better to maim than kill in war. I remember reading this statement years and years ago (20 years ago probably) as it uses far more troops and resources than simply killing someone. In this video, the requirements to try and keep this person alive were huge - about 8 people on scene (all now not doing what they were there to do), the medi-vac and their crew, and that's before the cost (financial and time) once in hospital.
Secondly, the shock hit the others afterwards. Especially the "camera guy". Was a full on pro throughout. As soon as the guy is on the chopper, the camera guy is fucked. I don't think I would be any different. You'll never forget watching that scene for real.
Maximum respect for the team being out there, fighting a cause they don't understand, for people they've never met, potentially against their own moral beliefs.

Same.. I think it's right to push your boundaries sometimes.. But I don't think anything good will come of watching this.. Will just be distressing and disturbing to watch. Just as we're naturally curious, even morbidly as taboo as it is so may cave.

I've got to take my hat off to them, so calm and professional during this.
I know i'd be screaming like a little girl if I was there, I've dealt with some horrific stuff, like car crashes and horrific leg/arm fractures but nothing close to seeing a friend/colleague being nearly blown to bits.

poor fucker..
watched this when OP first posted thread but wanted to see how the comments panned out first (generally alot of tosser on here at times and wanted to see what the general feelings were)
you hear things like this regular in the news..but i honestly think if these were aired on tv..the army would get alot more support
in all honesty i think i would rather be dead after that
i couldnt bear the thought of having to live on after those injuries(to those who do pull through and see the positive in it my hat goes off..must be very strong ppl)..id love to serve..but if i got injured like that..id rather a mate finished me off point blank and sent the ashes home :n:

He's not exactly quick on responding is he? Takes so long just looking at him and not helping? Suppose he's in shock but he seems very calm?
Makes you want to cry looking at the poor guy.

Quite possibly the most ridiculous soldiering I have ever seen and I've worked with X Company 1 RRF :P . Although I don't the full facts behind his story. I'd go as far as saying he deserved to get hit with such horrendous drills.

I have no idea about drills/taking orders etc. but surely what he was doing was not in line with usual soldiering?
That was a borderline suicide mission, he had no cover, slowly moving down a steep terrain in the open?

From the youtube description,
"the rest of the squad was pinned down by machine gun fire. I didn't start the video until a few mins into the firefight for obvious reasons. I came out into the open to draw fire so my squad could get to safety."
But yeah, it does seem rather odd though..

As heroic as people would think that was, just plain stupid. If he was to go down bad enough to need a casevac or anything that would've took 2 more blokes minimum. Those 2 get hit, another 4 and so on. Before you know it, a whole section is out of action.
Again, without knowing the full story we/I can't judge but I would hazard a guess that they would/may have had other assets available to either draw fire or fire support from another position to give covering fire to let the rest of his 'squad' get to safety.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's just really odd the way he pretty much made himself a sitting duck by sitting round for so long if he was planning on going down the hill in the first place. And then right at the start, it looks to me as if he's just stood up whilst turning his helmet cam on?
"I didn't start the video until a few mins into the firefight for obvious reasons."
Why wait, but then start it whilst in completely in the open? Didnt really look to me as if he was in cover?
Allthough of course, I know he's out there under fire, heat of the moment and im sat safely behond a computer screen, so it's a lot easier for me to judge!

I haven't read the majority of this thread as I'm about to go to sleep.
Saw this the other day though and found it pretty interesting..It's basically some guys helmet cam view as talaban take pot shots at him and his squad on a mountain. Have been told some of his other video's are really interesting too but haven't got round to seeing them either.
