having a big problem with my vtr
during the heavy rain we had last week i was driving in traffic on the m1 in stop start traffic doing about 30mph when the engine management light came on then a suddon lack of power . by lack of power i mean having to put foot to floor in 2nd to get it up to 30mph . then nothing at all setting off in 1st
iv changed the coil and plugs but still the same ???
is this a commen fault ? if not what should i be checking next ?
collapsed cat ? injector ? ecu ? or some other electrical gremlin ?
any help appreciated as its my daily smoke to work and im losing money every day its off the road :panic:

rite iv done a compresion test and that all good .
had the ecu out and thats bone dry ,
air filter out and thats dry too so hopefully no bent valves from a cylinder full of water
????
as much as i love my car its tempting to put it over the bridge now :wall:

still no joy after a brand new coil just to make sure the scrapyard part id fitted wasnt also a dud and new spark plugs ,
had the lanba sensor out and took it for a spin and still no power so im ruling out a collapsed cat for now
ecu fault ? its the single plug type are these hopeless like the 3 plug ecu's ?
what would people sugest next ?
im having to run around in a 1.0 micra at the minute thats how bad my need for a car is

Check the condition of your lambda sensor mate.

Will keep my eye on thus thread. Got the same problem on mine but its intermittent rather than permo.
Can a map sensor cause a missfire?

had a basic code reader on it today .
got 1203 Injector circuit open/shorted - cylinder #3
would just the 1 injector cause such a serious loss of power ?
its like its running on 2 at most not 3 cylinders

is the fuel econemy bad? if the injector is open and allowing fuel through alot of the time because its a waster spark ignition it will be fighting against itself alot of the time... change the injectors and go from there...

unbolt the injector rail, pull the injectors out still attatched to the rail, lay some card under the injectors, get someone to turn it over for you and check the spray pattern..
sounds like it could be the injectors

fuel economy was never that bad . it drinks it when you boot it but its been fine round town
this all started in the heavy rain and its been laid up in my mums garrage miles away from where i live ever since.
