I had a crash the other day after aqua planing. Its a mk2 vts 2002. The engine turns over but doesn't start, took off the front wing and replaced the fuel filter which was cracked, can now smell petrol but still won't start, any ideas?

Fuel filter is not behind the front wing , it is under the car on the left hand side just in front of the rear wheel ( at least at every 106 and saxo here in greece )
Unless you mean you changed the "carbon" fume filter which is behind the wing.
Look behind the inlet to see if any piping has come undone , and also check that your fuel pump is working properly

Ok thanks, I'll have a look at piping and check the fuel pump tomorrow when it stops raining!

That thing stops an airlock in the tank and stops fuel pissing out when the car rolls over. Has a ball bearing in it. If you open your fuel cap and there's a huge rush of air noise, it's possible there's a vacuum in the tank and that's the cause, but it's very rare.

It's been raining an awful lot so I haven't had a proper look at any if your suggestions but when I have a dry day I'll have a look at all of them, thanks!
