Hello people, how's tricks?

anyway I've recently bought a '97 Saxo 1.1, everything is excellent apart from no sound from the stereo.

Reading around I've seen multiple solutions. I've bought a new head unit, a beat 185 mechless thing (don't want cd's all over the place), thinking & hoping that would be that, but no luck sadly.

Fuses all seem absolutely fine.

Next step is checking the speakers. Now I can get in through the cover thing, but don't have the correct tool for the job. In the Haynes manual it describes a Torx screwdriver, but not the size and since these things come in multiple sizes (naturally) I'm stuck. :wall:

Any ideas people?

Also, if the speakers are not the problem what should I check next?

***I'm by no means a mechanic, but can do things as it were

Thanks for any help

Just grab yourself something along these lines and you'll most likely have the size you need :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/32-IN-1-MOBILE-PHONE-MINI-REPAIR-PRECISION-SCREWDRIVER-TORX-TOOL-KIT-SET-FIX-/160737850606?pt=UK_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item256cb8f4ee#ht_3125wt_1189

Or this if you've already got the handle:

to get the actual speakers out, they are either
1) screws
2) torx screws (you need size T20)
3) rivets (you will need to drill them out)

if the speakers still dont work, it will be the wiring to them. this obviously goes from back of headunit , under the dash, through the A pillar and into the doors.
im in same boat as you with one of my speakers, driviers one doesnt work, tried different speakers too, so when it comes to it, im re-wiring the lot lol.

so, I have finally got hold of a Torx screwdriver. I have successfully removed the speakers.

I've had a quick look at the wiring, from the headunit to the speakers (not an extensive look, didn't want to untie all of the wires & destroy the dash etc) it all seems fine, its all there anyway

Now I still get no sound, the speakers look original & the wiring is definitely Citroen, it still has the label, so could it possibly be that the speakers themselves are dorked?

i haven't checked the rear speakers, I'm not fussed about them working, the front ones will do, but will duff rear ones affect the front? I've checked the wiring diagram in the Haynes and they seem seperate.

Anywho, to check to see if the speakers are to blame I'm going to need a new set of speakers, A to check & B a better set wouldn't hurt, so suggestions please of dirt cheap speakers (£30 or less would be nice)

Thanks guys

Get a multi meter and check you have a signal down the cables !!

Seems very odd that both front and rear don't work, it's normaly the wiring between the door and bodywork that goes wrong and this doesn't effect the rears

hmmm strange, the wiring doesn't seem to be touching any bodywork, butI do need to get myself a multimeter

when I got the car, the stock stereo when turned on, a click would come out of the speakers for a split second, but there is nothing with the stereo I've put in...

i'll get there in the end i'm sure

It doesn't touch the bodywork, what happens is as the doors open it causes the cables to flex.
Over a period of time the wires break down
