Hi all wondering if anyone, has put 16" wheels onto a VTS here if so could you tell me if there was any difference to the handling, because I am not buying 16s if they ruin the awsome handling that I have on the std VTS wheels.

Mate if your saxo is as low as your avatar pic suggests then the handling won't be great anyway.

mate dont get fox evo 3s they are not wide enough for saxos and they make the handleing shit
i would stay with ur vts wheels but if u get 16s lower thew fook out of it

The only thing I have found is that the ride is rougher, im guessing this is becasue of the 40 profile tyre.

Its 100mm and my VTR was 40 and the VTS can do corners 10mph quicker im not pissing arround seriously is better than the VTR which had a strut brace and 15s, so the handling is pretty good atm, so dont wanna ruin it.

So has anyone compared

Dunno why everyone thinks that being down 100mm ruins the handling cos Ive been in 30mm, 35mm ,40mm and 80mm and my 100mm and a 106 gti which is 100 mm ish and that is the best handling hatch ive been in

Mate 100mm will mean there is no suspension travel at all, as in riding on the bump-stops. So maybe on a perfectly flat race track, yes it will go round quicker. But show it a UK road with even the slightest bumps and watch that back end bounce all over the shop.

if you want better handling get a lower strut brace if you get 16's. i have 16's with 195/40 tires corners very well.

you still have to consider the loss of power mate. 16s are harder to move for your engine... i had tsw alloys on it and believe it mate the car didnt move as expected. as you surely know in motorsorts you dont see big wheels on a car either. 15s are big enough and you get the whole engine power to the ground with the 14s you might have spinning wheels sometimes ;-)

But surely Oz racing in 16 are not alot heavier than the stock VTS wheels, as they are meant to be super light ????
I am ordering an upper and lower OMP strut, but remember Im down 100mm so the chances of the lower strut brace even going on is pretty slim,
I understand about the travel in the suspension believe me i think ive near shattered my spine once a week, but as long as i composate for the bumps the handling is awsome.

100mm? im sure u cant go that low on the rear, we lowered roseys VTR 80mm and its on the bump stops his tyre has dissapeared inside of the arch, yours doesnt look more than 60mm.
But my mate has 16's with 40 profiles down 40mm and thats low enough it still rubbs and caused his PAS pipe to burst
bloz
15th August 2006, 10:55
Have you seen my car? the alloy is almost under the arch, 100mm is not a precise measurement, and it is 60mm on the front, until i get me coilovers ;-)
Nah mate not getin Super Ts getin Records or the new Ultra Legs
DarylVTR
15th August 2006, 10:57
so is colins lol fair dos but your not going to get 16's in there without alot of rubbing put it that way not lowered 60mm or 100mm anyway, 40mm yes , anything lower ur gonna have problems

Are you sure ? I thought that you were ok as long as you get the 195/40 r16s because there not much bigger, when I get them IF as well I am driving straight to my mate Mark anyway to get him to check the arches.
Still the question remains though has anyone changed to 16s and wat effects did it have on grip etc?
Ill let you know about the lower strut brace tho I reckon the car wont even get of the ramp with it on :-(
bloz
15th August 2006, 16:02
does anyone know if you can get 205/40 r16s ? I might pay the extra for the extra grip
DarylVTR
15th August 2006, 16:04
205? mine are 195 they are deep enough havnt heard of 205 / 40's before mate
like i said my mate has rubbing down 40mm on 195/40/16's
bloz
15th August 2006, 16:13
its alrite my mate is like dont get 195/40 r 16s cos it will ruin your grip so i made this post to see what ppl think, he has got a civic 1.5 but drives like a nutter so i need to make sure that he does not show my handling up.
I may just buy the wheels for looks anyway, and hope that the lack of grip is not major, wats ur grip like with ur 16s and wat profile u got DarylVTR?
Gav
15th August 2006, 16:25
grip depends on what tires and width you get like 195. when i put my 16's on the handling didnt change at all from what i could tell untill i put my lower strut brace on. the whole size of the wheel with tire on is only 1" bigger than the vts wheels with 45's on when put side by side.
bloz
15th August 2006, 16:30
cheers naX but im thinking of getin the 195/40s which means less tyre more wheel which is y im so concerned about losin grip specially in wet, and as my ride is already like bein in a horse drawn carriage lol

you can i've got a mate who dropped his 120mm for shits and giggles, only to find his exhaust dragged on the floor when accelerating! leaving sparks trailing behind him! funny though!!

Cheers mate, well tomorrow is crunch time thats when I am ordering them if i decide to get them, my only other question is I am reliably informed that you can get the Oz records in a new Graphite colour which is nearly black?!
Anyone else seen them or heard of them?

16th August 2006, 12:59
Now im confused. Because I have heard that you can go down 60mm on a mk1 with 16's with 40 pros with liners removed and have no rubbing even with a full car?
bloz
16th August 2006, 13:16
mate mates is down 100mm with bass in boot and can still have 3 women in the bak ive seen it and mine will do with 40 pros the 45s require arch work
Ill post the pics wen I get them

16th August 2006, 13:17
Im excited now, just hope the donkeys in halfords dont cock the colour or tyre size up, sorry for anyone who may work in Halfords im only messin

16th August 2006, 13:22
Ah f.e. Cause i have 15's at the mo with 45's. And im lowerin 60. But later on im gonna get me some 16's with 40 pros and i dont wanna have to do too much lol.
And yeay i dont think halfords have heard of training. I asked if they had 4 gauge wire and the blokes repsonse, after waiting well over half an hour, was, well we have some wire over there.

16th August 2006, 14:17
LMAO, its funny watching them fit a stereo as well, the guy promised he would ring me about the wheels on Monday its Wed now and no call
TU-Tuning
16th August 2006, 14:29
lol quality service. When i was waitin in the queue i saw this sign that said they fit number plates FROM as little as 2.99. Fair play though you do need to be a trained mechanic to take out two screws and put them back in again.
You buy the rims on 20% off day or something mate?
bloz
16th August 2006, 14:30
Nah waitin for me student loan to come 2mz ;-)
TU-Tuning
16th August 2006, 14:35
Ah lucky man. So why are you buying from halfords lol. They are overpriced except for their 20% off days
bloz
16th August 2006, 14:40
Yeh its 20% off and im thinkin of getin them on finance cos i can buy my coilovers same time that way, its pay da too soon. Still tryin find out if Gaz coilovers ne good and how low they go ne ideas?
bloz
18th August 2006, 08:46
Right then the Wheels and Coilovers are ordered, when they come Ill post some before and after pics, Also fitted me black lights yest looking nice and me Saxperience stickers came so fitted them, plenty more pics to come ;-)
Ill let you all know how good/bad the grip and handling is when I have waited the 3-5 weeks for the suspension to be made and the wheels to come into from OZ
