When car is put into first gear it doesn't actually feel like it's fully in gear but won't push forward anymore and sometimes pops out when setting off and also reverse gear is also a bit tricky but doesn't pop out like first gear thanks darren

Could be the selector balls inside the gearbox. The balls that make sure it stays in gear. When you go to select gear the ball will go into a little cup shape to make sure it stays in gear and doesn't pop out...hard to explain.
Sounds like they are excessively worn if it doesn't feel like you're engaging gear as well.

Hi Darren. I've moved your post into a new thread because you replied in a very old thread that won't get a lot of assistance. Hopefully you should now get some more answers :)
Shout if you need any assistance, but the FAQ at the top of the page should help if you need to know how to post in different areas etc.
Welcome to the forum!

Is it only 1st gear that is like this? If so it's likely to be time a refurb the gearbox (or the cheaper option, chuck a second hand box in the car).
If it's general sloppiness in all gears then that might point more towards a worn gear linkage.
Even if it's just first, it might be worth looking at the gear linkage to make sure everything is tight and moves freely (as opposed to loose / sloppy / far too stiff).
