View Full Version : Coilovers - Are they really the way forward?

Hi Guys,

I want to get some opinions on this, the car in question is actually a C2 GT, not a Saxo, but because of the amount of people who use Saxo's in the same manner as i use my C2 i thought some of you guys will be able to offer your experiences on this.

I'm trying to make up my mind on the route forward. I'm currently running FK Coilovers on a car that is for track use and the odd run out o a nice day, though recently i've been thinking about a change of set up, part of this is due to the shocking ride coilovers provide on the road (which to be fair is partly my fault for having them wound right down) but also because coilovers seem to just be the done thing now despite whether they really work or not. This is even more apparent on C2's with no decent top mount options and orginal mounts that really are not suited to coilovers, it also seems difficult to get a good alignment set up on coilovers, without making a compromise somewhere.

So what i'm after is some feedback from others who use their car on track/race or hillclimb anyone who has experience of coilovers and a good old fashioned mcpherson strut set up. i've been researching the kits available for the latter and the two that have caught my eye are the Spax PSX and the Koni Sport, both of which offer adjustable dampers front and rear and come in at £370 & £480 respectively which seems to be way under what you have to pay for adjustable dampening coilovers.

Remember i'm not talking about what looks best when cruising down the high street, frankly i couldn't give a damn about ride height, this is about working out which suspension will allow me to get the best from the car.

Cheers!

You dont properly mention what the car is used for.
Is it used on the road, a track day car, or a race car of some sort.
Depending on use will depend on what your options are going to be. Also your budget will dictate a lot...
